I'm planning on applying EA to UVA this fall, but recently I've been thinking about how advantageous this may or may not be. It seems to me that since the EA applicant pool will be much smaller than the regular decision pool, and probably filled with more ambitious candidates, applying EA could be a disadvantage. Wouldn't I essentially be going up against stiffer competition and lesser odds than in the regular decision pool? Any thoughts?

The word from Admissions is that Early Action won’t be harder or easier than the regular admissions cycle–just earlier! Since it’s a new program, there’s no track record. I wouldn’t overthink this–if you want to apply early, and you have your essays done, just do it.

Thanks, I’ll apply EA and see how it goes. It would be really nice to get that decision in January!
