I've been accepted at Duke and at the UVa Echols scholar program. I am not getting any un-biased advice because my Mom and Dad and step dad all went to UVa and my senior advisor and favorite teacher went to Duke.

It's a good thing I have a month to decide because it's going to take me that long. To complicate matters further, I'm also on the waiting list at both Harvard and Princeton, so I have to think about that, too.

Visit both a decide. Both schools offer distinct benefits and disadvantages, and both have their own unique qualities. If you're instate at UVA, go there. If not, and you don't qualify for financial aid, it's still $10k cheaper than duke.

BTW, I was waitlisted by Princeton last year. Don't count on anything.

Congrats! Now tell us a little more about yourself. What do you plan to study? Have you visited both schools? Are you looking to participate in the Greek system? What's most important to you? Atheletics? Academics? Clubs & Social life? Is your family legacy important to you?

congrats on ur acceptance. thats a hard choice. cav has a point though. UVA instate foh sho. Both are great schools, but ofcourse my pick goes to hoovile. waitlisted at harv and princeton-->honor right in itself!

i read the same post on the duke board and all they talked about was duke being slightly more "presitigious" than uva. From my general observations, people from virginia think uva is worse than it is because - well its the state school in their state. From an oos perspective - no one has ever not been impressed at me going to uva - and honestly - u should really go see each school and make ur decision based on which one you like more.

I will say that the people who go to each school are different. Spend the night and make your choice based on which one you had more fun at. you wont do any worse in life because u went to uva instead of duke or vice versa.
