UVA echols Vs UPitt Honors with full tuition

My son got admission into UVA scholars program. Also the Upitt honors program has given full tuition for us (VA residency). His ultimate goal is to go to good medical school.
1)
cost of attendence (UVA= tuition+room/board (25,774* 4)=~103K
Vs
cost of attendence (Upitt= room/board (12000* 4)=~48K

diff = 55K debt
2) Since the ultimate goal is to go to reputed med school. Greatly appreciate any inputs or prior experience which campus helps him to get medical exposure, standing out in class to get good recommendations and opportunity to do research and scope to publish papers to become a strong AMACS medical college applicant.

Could not find any information where the pre-med students from UVA get admissions into?

3) Any thoughts or inputs in neuro science major at both UVA (only25 students. no guarantee to get admission in to that major) VS Upitt bio engineering or biology or neuroscience majors.

Thanks in advance . We are so confused and greatly appreciate any inputs to give us some clarity.

Sincerely
Schimdt Sr.

I think the question is how much money can you handle paying. Money aside, UVA is generally the better choice (unless something in particular draws your son to UPitt).

Holy crap, this is not even a question.
University of Pittsburgh is one of the best in the COUNTRY for Neuroscience, right up there with UCSD and some of the other bests. UPitt, honestly, and I know there’s no ‘good’ Pre-Med schools, but Upitt is definitely one that prepares you well. Their support system for pre-meds, advising, everything is spectacular. They have UPMC right next door which leads to some really great opportunities. I’m sure UVA is great, but take UPitt and don’t look back. Especially since your son will obviously be top of the pack at Pitt!

Also, if you’re looking for admission statistics, try mdapplicants . com. :)

U Pitt. If med school is the goal, then you need to save as much money as you can.

I agree with the others that Pitt is a great choice for pre-med majors. And unless your family very wealthy, one cannot just easily push “money aside” in the acceptance decision. That $55,000 savings will definitely come in handy when he’s trying to pay those med school bills.

Thank you all for your inputs. My son has decided to go to Upitt

I love UVA, but I think he definitely made the right choice given the circumstances. Good luck at Pitt.
