UVa email on Blackberry

Does anyone know how to hook up a UVa email account to a Blackberry?

Depending on whether you choose gmail or microsoft to handle your email, it will differ. I suggest looking on their website to find out. I need to set up my email with the merge into Gmail, and I have an iPhone, so maybe I’ll look into it tomorrow and get back to you.
I know with Gmail you have a couple of options:
-leave it all on the server, access it from a computer or blackberry
-leave some on the server, download others onto a computer
-another option that I use, is to have all mail forwarded to a separate gmail, and download the mail from the server onto a computer with Outlook/Thunderbird/etc

So, the main decisions: gmail or microsoft, and how to access it

With my iPhone, it took a bit of work to set up the UVA gmail. Just because of how the accounts were migrated to gmail, the account no longer uses your UVA password, so none of the standard gmail settings worked.

First, you need to log into your gmail through www.mail.virginia.edu.

Then:

 1. Click settings at the top.
 2. Click accounts.
 3. Click change my password.
 4. Click “Yes Reset My Password”
 5. Log out, then log back in through www.mail.virginia.edu .
 6. Set your new password as your UVA email password.
 7. Click accounts, the settings, then forwardwing, then enable IMAP.
 8. On the iPhone, add a new gmail account like normal, but for the username, make sure your use the full “username@virginia.edu”, and your UVA password.
 9. Realize you should’ve taken shoebox’s suggestion and just forwarded the email ;)

On the BlackBerry, you need to follow up to step 7, then follow these instructions (always being sure to use the "…@virginia.edu as your username). Add Gmail to another email client - Gmail Help;

With microsoft I don’t have a clue.

wow thanks a lot. That worked perfectly

What’s the difference between IMAP and the others? I’m thinking I might want to download some mail to my computer and off the server, but leave other stuff on, and I thought that was IMAP, but I forget.

OT but weird coincidence

im reading this topic while my gf was unplugging her iphone right next to me. However it just froze up at the slide to unlock and password screen and none of home/sleep button or syncing resets are working!!

bad luck, bad luck ='(

IMAP is like POP, where it downloads it to your computer, but with IMAP there is 2 way syncing, so if you read something on your iPhone, it also shows up as read in Outlook. With IMAP, everything is always stored on the server, but you can also download which ever messages you want.

That’s so sad about the iPhone! Is there an Apple Store nearby? The genius bar will often just replace the phone if they have any in stock. I’m not sure what they are doing now with the new iPhone being out though.

Thanks a lot for the instructions, I was having trouble doing this on my Mac. UVA should have some sort of instructions
