UVA [engineering] Vs. Notre Dame [business] - Pls Help!

I was admitted into both UVA and Notre Dame, and I am having trouble deciding. I love both colleges for different reasons and I am looking for any insights! Both schools have similar COA and distance. Looking to major in business, but not married to the idea and open to trying new things/finding my niche.

Notre Dame

  • Direct Mendoza Admit
  • Sports Atmosphere, tight knit community
  • Alumni Association/Job and Internship Prospects/Great Reputation
  • Worried I might not fit into dorm culture / don’t come from a “notre dame” family (non-legacy)
  • CONS: Weather/Location (South Bend)

UVA

  • Engineering School Admit (May transfer to econ → commerce but not married to the idea!)
  • Alumni Association/Job and Internship Prospects/Great Reputation
  • Like the club culture + greek life
  • Bigger school, more room to grow and explore
  • Great Sports/Social Atmosphere
  • Charlottesville is beautiful and so much to do/explore
  • Coming from OOS, so a new environment
  • Cons: No Direct Admittance, worried it may be clique-y.

Thank you!!

Does net price differ or matter?

Do you really want to major in business or some kind of engineering?

If you want to major in business, how difficult is it to change to business at UVA. If you want to major in some kind of engineering, how difficult is it to change to engineering at ND?

Agreed. You need to look at paths to change major. You are clearly one of the majority of students who will change and that’s ok.

FWIW, changing majors and even colleges within ND is relatively simple compared to peer schools, as long as the student is not attempting to transfer into Mendoza - this requires a significant application. OP is already admitted to Mendoza, so it shouldn’t be that much of a hassle.

Two fantastic schools! Congratulations!

I’m a big fan of direct admit programs. You said you want to study business. You are already in Mendoza at ND so that would push me in ND’s direction. (For full disclosure my H went to ND and my S went there for grad school so I’m a fan – but my comments still hold true).

At UVA I belive you apply to the b-school in your sophomore year and the acceptance rate is about 66%. McIntire Welcomes the Class of 2022 to the B.S. in Commerce Program! - Experience McIntire IMO you attend UVA you would need to have a back up major you’d be happy to study in the event you don’t get into the b-school.
