Could you guys potentially chance me? My profile is on the 6th page @ILRmaybe @aftfl12 @cdndukealum @Goingforclacking @WhoTouchedMyTaco
Yoooooo whats up @WhoTouchedMyTaco I see you on the georgetown thread haha!
Ivyleague2 - the process to which transfer applicants are accepted is so opaque that I am in no position to chance you. But regardless, you should know soon enough.
@IvyLeague2 From what I’ve seen on older threads, OOS applicants are at a disadvantage with IS community college applicants having the best chance of admission
How bad is it if someone didnt turn in their CSS Profile by April 1st? Asking for a friend
It can hurt YOUR chances for receiving institutional grants from the college. It’s not immediately going to disqualify you for grants/scholarships, it may possibly decrease the value of your financial aid. Because everyone else may have submitted their CSS profile before the deadline, or maybe even earlier, they may be the ones that’re considered for financial aid first, before the latter financial aid applicants. So for example, if you submitted your financial aid material(s) by let’s say…Feb 1st, the value of your financial award package may be higher than if you submitted the material(s) by April 4th.
It works by a first-come-first-served basis.
Does anyone know how the university views third year transfers coming from universities out of state? I’m an IS resident btw. From what I’ve seen in the earlier threads and personal testimony, UVA seems to take a lot of people from CC (even if not participating in the guaranteed program) and neighboring VA colleges (JMU, VT, etc).
@va2pittsburgh If I’m being honest, you shouldn’t worry about that. The fact is that you’re an in-state student and in-state students are given preference, regardless of the fact that you currently go to an out-of-state university. You should be fine.
If someone could give me an idea of my chances of transferring into uva it would be much appreciated. Here are my stats:
3.3hs Gpa(gpa increased every year)
1960 old sat score: 690 reading, 660 math, 610 writing
3.9 first semester college gpa at George Mason
Econ major
I took many honors and AP classes in hs. 7 ap and 5 honors classes. I actually have 12 transferable credits just from AP scores.
Coached basketball, editor for my newspaper, was in a few clubs,
What are my chances?
The information you have provided is relatively meaningless as someone seeking to transfer after only one year. The question you must answer, and will be the case as long as your current institution offers undergraduate degrees in your course of study, is why UVA offers you something that George Mason does not. This is a question you must not only answer for yourself, but also explain to admissions. You must be able to detail the reasons why, and not simply say something along the lines of, “I have always wanted to go to UVA,” or “UVA is my dream school,” or “I love Charlottesville,” etc.
However, you must also know that transferring after only one year will always be more difficult than transferring after two. Your sample size as a college student is still really low. The courses that are taken as a first year, and often even a second year, are generally courses meant to satisfy prerequisites and therefore are usually not a strong indicator of one’s ability yet. When transferring after one year, your high school record will be weighed much more. As you probably know, your high school GPA is simply not strong enough, and while the AP and honors courses taken in high school are great, they can only make up for but so much.
In your other thread chance thread you mention a 3.7 midterm report, as well as a list of courses (presumably from both semesters). It appears that you have taken 9-10 classes. I think that some of your classes are going to be helpful, such as calculus, but nothing jumps out as me right now as giving me a “WOW! Look at that course load!” reaction which is important for those wishing to transfer after a short period with less-than-perfect stats.
As it is, I would say your current chances are waitlist at best.
basetwo - that is all very interesting. You seem to be approaching this individual’s chances from the lens of someone who is intimately familiar with what UVA admissions will consider in the context of a transfer application. In fact, you have essentially told this candidate that they will not be admitted to UVA. You may be 100% correct - I certainly do not know. So that we can properly assess your commentary, are you someone who has worked in college admissions and has processed transfer applications? Specifically, have you some knowledge relating to UVA admissions that makes you appropriately suited to provide this analysis?
@sd4198 don’t be discouraged by basetwo’s comment. If you look at his profile you’ll see all his comments are made to discourage and troll others.
I know people with worse stats than you who got into uva after one year of college. I even know of people who got in from CC after a semester of average performance so I’d say you have a solid chance of getting based on what you’ve provided.
@sd4198 From my experience, I wouldn’t take basetwo’s comment seriously. I applied last year as a second-year transfer (out of state) with a 2.7 and got waitlisted. Although transfer admissions are hard to predict, I don’t think “waitlist at best” is accurate. Best of luck
@sd4198 - listen to these two posters. Clearly transferring is a crap shoot - so impossible to know what will occur. Good luck.
does anyone’s to do list on sis says you’re missing your parent’s W-2 and 1040?
I am an independent student and had to submit my W-2 and 1040. This appears to be for verification purposes so SFS can check your actual financials against what you reported in the CSS profile.
@rk123 My to do list has like 5 forms that need to be submitted. I just emailed them about it.
@va2pittsburgh which documents do you have?
Uploading your documents on the to do list looks more effective than emailing them in btw.
i don’t see anything in my to dos as far as documents.
