Officially half way through all my classes for the semester. Need to grind for another month and half until decisions come out.
Is anyone else applying through GAA?
Seems like most are juniors applying competitively and sophomores.
I understood it that these numbers were based on internal candidates. Could be wrong though. Transfer application is different and I’m not sure if they heard yet, but of the 96 deferred they expect to accept 40 of those students so I’m wondering if the transfer acceptances is above and beyond the 320-335
Before you know it, results will be in. Check out the credit analyzer to see where your current classes fall in terms of meeting the core requirements. http://ascs8.eservices.virginia.edu/asEquivs
@Collegehelp4us This is how I understand it: 40 of the deferred students might get a spot, because not everyone is going to accept the admissions offer.
Nevertheless, I guess it won’t matter to much either way. I am sure they’re gonna admin between 30-35 external transfers no matter what.
So I know that applications have already been submitted so this isn’t as helpful but really, try not to get too hung up over stats. I didn’t even bother applying to UVA as a first year (1830/2400 SAT, hardly any extracurricular activities, etc.) so I did well my first year at Tech and got in as a second year. I think UVA does a great job at looking past average scores or maybe I was just lucky! Either way, good luck to all of you and feel free to ask me any questions that might come up.
What was your GPA and credits?
@uvact123 I had a 3.84 over 31 credit hours (one B in calc and two A-). I had a good amount of the prereqs for the econ major so I feel like that helped a lot.
Wow you did very well at VT. I’m currently at NVCC with a bit more credits than 31 and with a 4.0 GPA. What would my chances be? Would I be at a disadvantage for being at a CC?
@uvact123 I’m not the best at chancing people but I don’t think that UVA discriminates against CC transfers at all! That said, most CC students don’t transfer until after two years so it might be a bit harder as a second year transfer? Since you’ve only done a year there, they do look a bit more at your high school stats then they would someone who’s completed two years.
Yea that’s my inclination on my chances as well. my HS GPA and SAT aren’t really that good tbh (below average). I have like 10 AP credits that will transfer with me and I am taking accelerated courses at my CC that end late March. So that means that UVA will actually see all final grades for my 34 credits at my CC. That’s why I’m feeling pretty optimistic about my chances and feel that this separates me from the other applicants applying after only one year.
Can someone chance me please. I just got rejected by Umichigan given that i dont think i could get in uva, cause uva is much more rigorous. won’t hurt for a shot
applying CAS as a second year transfer student. Im currently studying at penn state (one of the biggest commonwealth campus)
HS GPA 3.7-3.8 a private hs in jeresy
SAT 1410/1600
College GPA 3.95 with 19 credits and 16s ongoing

Praying to God
I would say good chance, but you’re out of state. Out of state acceptances to UVA are very tough, and it’s impossible to chance you since it can be so arbitrary and situational. Instate that would’ve gotten you in for sure I can say that confidently.
Chance me?
Applying as a second year (out of state) female transfer student from Dickinson college
High school gpa: 3.9 (4.42 senior and junior year with IB courses)
College gpa: 3.85
2 rec letters
Honor society
Pre-health society
Dean’s list
Varsity sport first semester
Didn’t send scores as test scores are optional for transfers
Just like @uvact123 said above for @yolos1066 chances. It’s hard to judge out of state transfers. If you were in state then I would say that you probably would’ve been guaranteed admission but because out of state transfers are competitive I would put your chances at average to good. Your high school GPA is a lot higher than mines and a lot of other peoples in this thread and your college GPA is up there as well, so considering you have the proper courses taken for your major and for what UVA wants, I’d say you have a good shot.
I agree I think you have a good shot - assuming you have strong classes this year. All depends on OOS applicant pool. Good luck.
Are you guys rooting for UVA in March Madness? Exciting time to be a prospective Hoo.
Hey, just wondering if someone can chance me. I really, really want to go to UVA as it’s my dream school, but I just didn’t do well in my freshmen and sophomore year in high school which brought my hs gpa down.
Stats:
Applying as a 2nd year to the SEAS
Current College: UMass - Amherst(CS Major)
Residency: In-state
HS GPA: 3.95 (Weighted), took 11 AP classes and the rest honors.
College GPA: 3.9 (Dean’s List)
Mid-Year Report: 3.6 (Not planning on sending it because of my poor midterms, I don’t know why they were so hard :P)
Classes taken/currently taking: Chemistry, 2 Comp Sci classes at the 1xx level, Multivar Calc, Linear Algebra, Physics, Comp Sci cryptology, college writing course.
Essays: I think they were decent, but my common app essay I feel was my strongest. Since I only applied to UVA, I wrote it personally about them, how it’s my dream school and how since freshmen year of hs I learned from my mistakes and fully developed into a student that they would appreciate.
ACT: 32 (35 for Math section, 34 for Science section)

Not much college extracurriculars, only participated in intramural basketball.
Good chance unless they wait list you and ask for your final grades for this semester. Best hope they admit you first try and not wait list you. You’ll probably get in dude you’re in state and you worked hard your 1st semester with a near perfect GPA and transferable courses. Given SEAS is tough to get into, your HS stats won’t hurt you. Good chance
