UVA Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

BTW what are the prereqs or main required courses for McIntire?

^is that a joke? why are you asking this late into the process? that’s info you can easily get on the website

@“FutureIbanker/hfmanager”

@CTUR782 Lmao, yeah that’s probably why medical schools consider 4.0 in CC and 4.0 in University to be the same thing. (Sarcasm, they dont)

@msport Jeez. I know its late but I wasn’t asking to do something about it. I just wanted to know and my question was about MAIN courses that are required. they have a list of idk like 10-15 courses and not everyone is going to take 2 sems of french or spanish in college. Hope u get my point…

@“FutureIbanker/hfmanager” well if you truly want to be an investment banker, you should have the due diligence capabilities to not need to ask that question.

financial/managerial acc
macro/micro econ
foreign language up to 202 level
2 humanities/fine arts
non-western perspective
international business equivalent

lol everyone’s so hostile, the stress is high :))

@“FutureIbanker/hfmanager”
Just Google mcintire prerequesities. There are about 8 classes that are required and a minimum of 54 credits.

@msport “non-western perspective” where did you get that from? I havent seen that anywhere.
This is what I knjow about:

First Writing Requirement
6 credits of Humanities
STAT 21202
Calculus
Principles of Economics: Microeconomics
Principles of Economics: Macroeconomics
Foreign/World Language3: Completion through the 2020 level First or second

Non western perspective is the required history class that focuses on the history of a minority group or one not in the western world. I took African American history to satisfy mine.

@Vincent1997 can’t sleep either? see above comment ^

That’s for CAS though, I wouldn’t know for Mcintire

@msport did you write that for cas? Thought it was for mcintire haha
P.s. I’m from CA so it’s only 10 right now

Hi @uvahopeful6014! Since you didn’t tag me in your reply I’m just now seeing it:

You wrote: “I’m sorry but you’re not making very much sense. Can you please go back to the theads of 2010-2017 and please link me one 4.0 applicant that was rejected in state? It’s an open challenge and I’m certain that someone doesn’t exist. You’re posting on emotion and your imaginary 4.0s being rejected left and right are all in your head. Once again I’ve looking everywhere online and no 4.0 with transferable courses was rejected.”

The person I know with a 4.0 was attempting to transfer from CC to CAS with only one requirement unfulfilled, but did not have particularly strong recommendation letters, extracurriculars, or essays. He was very upset but now recognizes that he wasn’t a good fit for UVA, and that showed in all aspects his application. My point was that GPA was important - but it is not the end-all, be-all. As others have said, there are outliers - if you have an average, you have a range! No need to use absolutes when describing holistic applications.

Additionally, there is a STRONG selection bias to these forums. Not everyone who posts here lists their stats - neither you nor I have. The number of people who read these posts is at least a couple of factors greater than the number of people who post, and strong candidates are likely to post their impressive stats, while the weaker candidates are unlikely to do so to avoid criticism.

Transferring as a second year is way more competitive, there’s no getting around that. It is impressive how in the last 5 years, all three of your brothers have applied and been accepted for UVA as second years. I’m glad they all realized they were not a good fit for their original institutions. I hope the rest of the waiting period passes smoothly for you.

Thanks for responding. In response to your rebuttal I’d like to mention that it’s good to grasp what is able and provided for us. Rather than be overly optimistic, I think about the only thing we can do is look to the past for precedence as the admissions process is unknown to us. I particularly have not seen on Quora/Reddit/collegeconfidential any straight A applicant with transferable courses being rejected from the genesis of UVA transfer threads on this site. Not to mention all of my bros were successful on attending UVA and one of them already graduated. I don’t know the context of your “supposed” applicant who was rejected after 2 years presumbably with a 4.0 applying to CAS. If he was in state as well, I would be very surprised that he was rejected. Of course if this is true, the countless applicants that I have seen being accepted signal to me an outlier. I also agree with the selection bias because only truly motivated and competitive applicants in my opinion would bother posting here. That would also explain how many have great stats on here. As for your comment about 2nd year transfer being more competitive, last year there was an exact 50/50 split among 2nd/3rd year accepted students. It also makes sense in a way to want 2nd year transfers to have higher GPAs since they are taking easier classes as first years and will only have 1 semester worth of grades. Good luck to you. One day left.

UVA financial aid called me this week to verify some questions about financial aid forms, guess thats a pretty good sign haha

Yea looked at your stats from your previous posts and 100% you got in. That phone call should be a good clue too

Well damn it got heated fast lmao. The more I read this, the more anxious you guys are making me feel :frowning: I thought having a 3.9 first semester would make up for my no ECs and no recs and no midyear report but now I just feel like I’m gonna get denied. Plus I didn’t submit FA so I don’t have any early indications. The wait is killing me!!!

Btw I didn’t mean to come off the way I did on my previous post. I just can’t stand people like @Niaxe42 in this thread.

Although GPA is important, it indeed isn’t everything. Whatever the GPA might be for whoever; everyone has a chance and I wish everybody the best of luck tomorrow. All of y’all have been so helpful from the admissions process to the waiting game and I really hope all y’all dreams come true.

@iamworried264 You’re good. You are applying from a good University with a good GPA. I don’t think it’s your GPA, or EC that you have to worry about. Just make sure (I mean now it doesn’t matter anymore) that you have all the necessary prerequisites and credits. If you have those, then I think you definitely have above average chances.
I feel you on the financial aid thing. I also wish that I could get some hints from it.

@Vincent1997 Lol glad I’m not the only one up at this time. @iamworried264 Like I stated in my last post, I didn’t mean to create any panic. Your GPA is near perfect so as long as you have the correct courses then you shouldn’t worry. I hope you get in tomorrow.
