How’s it going, everyone! Now that the dust has settled, I’d like to take the torch from @msport and create a waitlist thread to aggregate the data. I hope this works out for everyone.
I’ve been waitlisted to CAS from Virginia Tech as an incoming 2nd year. Let’s put all the information here for the future years!
I guess I’ll start

My daughter applied as incoming third year to CAS with GPA of 3.5. Hoping to hear back sooner than later so she can decide where she’s going to go. She did get accepted to Virginia Tech and JMU.
On the waitlist to McIntire for Finance:
Stats:
School: CUNY in NYC, top one and known for finance
4.0/4.0 GPA- Took 63 credits, 12 in progress (relevant courses in macoeconomics, micro, intro to business, CIS course)- likely all A’s for the 12 credits
ECs:
- Three volunteer trips overseas
- Blockchain internship for 6 months
- have 300K twitter followers on accounts based on news/sports statistics
- real estate internship at big company from HS
Decent essays, but not great- based on volunteer experiences, UVA’s broader business scope, McIntire’s reputation (not in business world, but in regards to their teaching style), and how I had to be local bc of parent illness
Good rec from a communications teacher but not so relevant
Around 3.8-3.9 HS GPA/4
Not submitting SAT scores
Kinda worried that since I’ll have 75 credits, they’ll ignore me
- Also I got accepted to UVA arts and sciences last year (Spring semester), but didn't end up going
- Didn't do great on interview
Is there a realistic chance? I’m assuming chances for McIntire on wait list are basically nothing.
Someone was already taken off the waitlist for McIntire on 5/21!
@momto2girlsinva I heard about this too. Isn’t it a little early to do this though? For schools where final grades are posted on the 19th, it’s very likely that final grades may not even reach them in time to make a difference.
@Rjlake33 perhaps, but on past years threads, I’ve seen that McIntire and SON have had people get off the waitlist in May while CAS applicants don’t typically start hearing til the first wave around the first Friday of June or so.
@momto2girlsinva Speaking of the first wave, has anyone heard about how many people they plan to take off the list? Hopefully, it’s more than the 40 people they took off last year.
Do you think we will hear today?
@Vagirl123 I doubt it. Usually the first wave comes the first Friday of June so I would think it would be next Friday instead of today. I certainly hope they take more off the waitlist this year than last, too!
@Vagirl123 Probably this time next week. Maybe even on the Thursday before. I know one person who found out they got in from SIS before the emails were sent out.
Hey guys, I got off the McIntire waitlist yesterday! Wanted to wait a bit for everything to get settled with enrollment and all that before posting. Keep your hopes up everyone, everything will work out.
If you don’t get in this time around, don’t worry too much. When I first got to my current university in 2016, I knew I wanted to transfer. I applied my first year for transfer to eight different schools and was rejected from all of them. In my second year, I was less hopeful, but applied anyway to four others. Again, I was rejected from all of them. This year, in my third transfer attempt, I applied to three schools and was somehow accepted to two (T10) then waitlisted at McIntire. I knew deep down that given where I was academically and professionally I didn’t want to transfer unless it was to UVA. I ended up turning down my offers to the other two schools hoping that everything would work out without knowing my status with UVA.
TL;DR: If something is meant to be, it will be. This isn’t your only chance to transfer, and if you know you belong somewhere other than your current college, don’t give up on applying, even if it takes a few attempts! Best of luck to all of you, I know you’ll do great wherever you end up!
Please, please, please remember to remove your name from the waitlist if you plan to enroll in a different college/university. This single decision can be life-changing as many people (like me) are still desperately waiting to be accepted somewhere. Thanks guys
At this point, it’s probably too late to do it since it’ll come out this Friday. I’m fairly confident that they already have the decisions ready a week in advance,
Not necessarily…it may be too late for this week but removing your name can help someone that is up for the second wave that may hit towards the end of June since the waitlist is not closed til the end of the month. So yes, anyone that is not planning to attend UVA afterall, please please remove your name from the waitlist for consideration if you haven’t already!
Am I the only one who sees nothing in the application portal? Below my residency status there are just blank lines with no words or anything.
@Rjlake33 my daughter just checked hers too and she said hers is blank, as well. Not even showing that she’s waitlisted any longer. Just a bunch of lines like yours.
I don’t want to get ahead of myself and give myself false hope but it could mean something. I wish we could get a larger sample size to make sure this isn’t a system wide issue.
I did a search on this site of “blank lines” and it could be a good thing. Trying not to get my hopes up for my daughter, either, but it could be promising Someone posted back in 2009 “what exactly is a blank line” and the reply they got was " On your “where am I in the process?” page, there is a list of your submitted materials and their dates. At one point, some people have a date but no description. It’s really a blank box, and it supposedly represents when your decision was made."
GOOD LUCK!!!
It’s possible that it’s true. However, we can’t use previous years to compare to because the portal is brand new. We’re the Guinea pigs this year.
