One of the factors in the report is based on acceptance rate. I’m sorry but the ranking is a bit of a joke. Reed College used to be one of the top 20 schools until they just stopped turning in the forms and surveys to US News. Now they hover from 80-100. I really doubt the quality of education is dropping just because UVA isn’t 15th or 10th anymore.
Meh. I wouldn’t get too excited about minor rankings fluctuations. Interestingly,. in the U.S. News Best National Universities rankings, UVA is #26 and UNC-CH is #30. However, in the U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings, UNC-CH is #27 and UVA is #94.
DocG – The USNWR formula has been changed several times over the years and those changes have been quite unkind to state schools. Among the public Ivies, though, fwiw UVA has held up better than most.
In 1983, Cal was #5 and UM was #7. Today #20 and #29. UNC was #9 in 1985. Today #30. Time to confiscate the scissors and belts in Berkeley, Ann Arbor and Chapel Hill…
UCLA was #16 in 1990 and #23 today. UVA was #15 in 1988 and #26 today.
Maybe Dean J could confirm if she’s allowed to have scissors and/or belts in her office? And whether her peers in Westwood are as well?
Northwesty - you are going to have to explain your scissors and belts joke to me.
Come on Charlie.
Dropping 15-20 spots on USNWR is enough to put any university administrator on suicide watch.

Congrats, Dean J. on being recognized for one of the best college admissions blogs.
UVA is back in the top 25.
Being ranked #26 was so ridiculous. Thankfully, that grave injustice has been corrected.
@northwesty mustve been a painful year for you. dont take these too seriously lmao
