Uva grading scale.

What is the grading scale like at Uva...My brother goes to UNC and gets a screwed up GPA because they require like a 95% to get an A of any sort, below that is a B. I was hoping that Uva isnt that harsh.

doesnt it depend on how well u do in the class. Like you only compete with students in the class right. I mean for some classes like a 75% might be an A, where others like a 95% might be an A.

^^depends on whether or not the class is curved

Alright, thanks. I really have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to college grading scales. Sorry to sound like an idiot.

Depends on the class. To some degree this isn't all that different from high school - while your school had some official grading scale for converting percentages to letter grades, any teacher could skew the distribution either way to weighting some things more than others. In this case, the only thing the professor submits is a letter grade - how it was determined is up to him/her.

Most classes give between 10 and 30% A's, 40-50% B's, and then the rest some breakdown of lower grades. The average GPA overall for UVA students is around a 3.0.
