UVa Instate? WILL CHANCE BACK!

Currently a high school junior in state with a 4.1 weighted gpa, I have had only 2-3 Bs in high school, everything else A's. I take 5 IB's this year but only pre-calc instead of IB Math. Math has never been my strong suit. Next year I will take 5 IB's and 1 AP (math) as well. I am in SGA, NHS, French Honor Society, Earth Club, and on the broadcast program. I play a sport and have won district accolades. Also have gotten academic awards for foreign language and will attend Governors School for French in the summer. I also got an 1810 the first time on the SAT but hope to improve to at least a 1900. Will take my SAT subject tests in June, (World History and French) So, do I have even the slightest chance? Will my B's in math be my downfall? Any comments appreciated! Thanks!

I was going to say you were in for sure until I saw your SAT score. Worry about that, not the B’s. Even with the low SAT, the rest of your application looks strong. With a 1900, I would say match/ high match. If you can break 2000, your chances would be really good.

As the other commenter said, you seem like a lock in state, besides your SATs. I think your grades, rigor, and ECs are above average at UVA, and if you got even a 1950+, you could probably be a very solid match at UVA. Chance back?

The B’s aren’t a huge deal. You have taken very hard courses and have great ECs! Focus on getting that SAT up to the 2000s. High match/match.

You seem like an amazing candidate for UVA so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Your GPA and rigor of classes will help you a ton when admission time comes.

Well, obviously at the extracurricular side of the spectrum, you seem to have done enough. Your SAT is a bit in the lower end and your grades are awesome with the perfect touch of course rigor. I would say you have an alright chance at UVA but the fact you’re instate really boosts you that much higher. I’m very sure you will be able to get in as you look like a strong student and the fact that you’re applying in state helps you out even more
