Does anyone know what the international relations program at UVA is like? I have to choose between UVA and W&M...do one of these schools surpass the other in terms of their IR program? And what about history programs-which school is better?

I second this question! Include politics in the answer, if possible.

I'm also looking to do IR at UVa. I have heard its good.

The actual major is called Foreign Affairs here, and the program is a very strong one. It's a quite common/popular major, and is sufficiently difficult according to most.

Both IR/FA and History at UVA and W&M are extremely comparable... they both rank very near to each other. Based on US News & WP's rankings for graduate school programs (none exist for undergrad programs), UVA is higher in ranking than W&M in both departments. However, they are so close to each other in quality that it would be near impossible to make your decision based on that.

Because the academics of almost all humanities program between the schools are so close, you'd be better off deciding based on other aspects of each school. Personally, I liked the atmosphere at UVa better than W&M, hence why I'm here.
