Hello! I was wondering what are my chances of getting into these schools. As a fall 2016 sophomore transfer from CNU, I have already received a transfer acceptance letter to VT with a Public Relations major(really early I was surprised). However, I don’t know my chances for UVA (applied for Media Studies or Cognitive Science) or JMU (Journalism).
ACT 26
High School GPA: 3.5 (weighted)
College GPA: 3.1
In State (actually from Charlottesville)
Also, I have amazing letters of recommendation to supplement my transcripts. They are beautiful and all I can say is that I earned every word of them. It’s been a long year, and I’m ready to transfer.
Do you mind sharing why you want to transfer away from CNU? we are currently considering CNU as a choice for our son, and we are interested in every piece of info. Thanks!
I’m from Winchester, and I think JMU is a sure bet! UVA might be just a little bit of a reach. If you have your heart set on UVA and don’t get in I reccomend going to a CC (I think yours would be PVCC) and trying to get your GPA up a little, because VCCS and UVA have transfer agreements! As long as your GPA is a 3.4 at PVCC and you take the basic general Ed stuff UVA requires, you’ll get accepted. JMU is a really great school though, my younger sister was accepted there two days ago and was also trying to decide between VT and JMU and went with JMU because it was a better fit for her ~party~ personality. On the other hand, I have family who came out of VT and are super successful and refer to their time at VT as the best years of their life.
If you’re interested in the transfer agreement: http://cdn.vccs.edu/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/UVA_VCCS_GAA_Final_Dec2013.pdf
I assumed that being at a community college would be awful, but it has really been a great experience. I graduate from LFCC in April and am transferring.
anybody hear from JMU regarding transfer decisions?
My sister found out 2 days ago. I don’t think she got an official acceptance letter yet, she just checked the online account and it said “accepted”!
anybody else hear? No word on my end…
That’s awesome…where did she transfer from? Do you know her GPA, credits etc???
She’s transferring from a community college that we’re both going to while living at home in VA. Her college GPA is 3.7 and I know she has 24 credits completed and is currently taking Statistics (3), Microbiology (4), ART 102 (3), and A&P I (4). So she’ll have a total of 38 credits at the end of spring and will probably take a few over the summer. Her high school GPA was 3.9 and she did DECA, Key club, and worked part time as a hostess from her junior year of high school until present day.
WOW! That’s clearly why she go it and maybe why she has heard so quickly…Lot’s of credits, great GPA, courses JMU is looking for and extra curric. & work. Well done! Only my fresh year at a 4 year college with a 3.6 so no sure if it’s going to cut it…I also play a college Varsity sport which I’m hoping helps - it’s a lot of work. I have the STAT classes with A last semester and this semester. I don’t have any science courses since my major is business…i’m thinking this is going to hurt plus i’ll only have 28 credits total for fresh year…Fingers crossed!
Thanks you guys! I got waitlisted a few days ago to JMU, which I thought was strange because I got into Tech.
@vabmom123 I want to transfer from CNU because it is very difficult to get the classes you need to graduate on time. It is very small and at first, I liked it, but then I realized that I needed something bigger. The main reason why I would like to leave CNU is because of racial diversity. I hope the best for your son!
