Hello! I’m starting this discussion thread for those who are accepted/wait listed for the UVA London First program for Fall 2021. My D is accepted into the program and is VERY excited about the prospect of going. What an amazing opportunity UVA has offered!
As someone who lives in London, I am curious why anyone would find London First an attractive option. Regent’s University has only had University status since 2013 and is mostly known for its business programmes. At best, RU has a mixed reputation. Wouldn’t your daughter be better served by spending her first semester in Charlottesville and doing a semester abroad once she in a junior when she can better tailor her time abroad to her academic and career interests?
Hello @londondad. Thank you for providing insight as a London resident. Your points about Regents are well taken. During the semester UVA requires a 4 credit course specific to the program and a gen ed writing course that are taught by UVA profs there for the semester. Students also choose 3 courses from Regents that interest them. I think the London First program appeals to a very specific type of student. My daughter in particular was interested in taking a gap year to travel. That plan isn’t panning out as we thought it might (long story), so the semester in London would be a great fit for her to spread her wings and experience another culture while also bonding with a small group of UVA students. There will be plenty of time to come back to UVA, settle into her specific course of study, and travel again for a semester in the future. Did your daughter apply to UVA?
In that case, the UVA programme looks like a good fit for her!
Any other students out there looking to accept into the London program? It is so quiet on this topic!
I’ve been accepted! Just found this thread - has anyone committed to the program yet?
Yay! Finally a reply to my post! @nomusicnolifex My daughter accepted into the London program and couldn’t be more excited about it. The studies abroad office at UVA has put much effort into creating an amazing program and it is exactly what my daughter is looking for to kick off her college career! Have you accepted yet? Feel free to DM me and I can connect you to her if you want to talk about the program.
I’m an incoming first year and I’m considering applying. Do y’all know how selective it is? I saw that tuition for an out of state resident is roughly $20,000; is that on top of tuition for uva? Or is that instead of uva tuition?
@carsonnewman Here is the information:

It is harder to get in out of state. The numbers for this year’s admission are broken down on Dean J’s blog.
@carsonnewman If you are interested in the program you should contact them ASAP as they are in the process of forming the group now. Dudley Doane and Kathleen McLaren-Hawking in the Studies Abroad are wonderful about answering questions.
@carsonnewman I just realized that you meant the program itself, not UVa (there are so many people who post chance me questions on unrelated threads that I get confused sometimes). I would definitely email those people ^^^ if you want to apply. Applications were due March 1, so obviously regular decision kids couldn’t do so. If you were EA, I’m not sure that they would make an exception for you if you waited until now, but if you were an RD applicant, you may still have a chance. I’m not sure how many spots they’ve confirmed yet.
@carsonnewman I was just looking online at the London First program and it looks like they are accepting new applicants until May 15. If interested, apply right away! Good luck!
@ibseniorsev It looks like they opened up the applicant pool to regular decision students now.
