<p>I have two questions:</p>
<p>1) Is the level 1 math a good test to send? I know it's easier, but shouldn't the harsher curve make it equal to the level 2?</p>
<p>2) If it isn't a good test, should I cancel my score before I get my score? If it's okay, should I retake or cancel it if I didn't answer 7 questions (I felt confident about the ones I did answer, though, and if I got all of those right, it becomes a score of 710)?</p>
<p>I didn't study at all for this though, so I'm sure if I retake it I could get a better score.</p>
<p>I have been told to just take Math 2, no matter what, but that was in the context of a different university. I wouldn’t read in too much to the curve, though- the SAT Subject Test curves can be a little wonky, because they’re short and taken by relatively few and mostly self-selecting students. Everyone who thinks they’re good at math (and most of them are) is going to take Math 2, which is why 12% get an 800.</p>
<p>Math 1 is generally seen as the weaker"option, but I don’t know if that would actually count against you.</p>
<p>I’m assuming that you’re a rising senior? If you are, you have plenty of time to retake the test, or just take Math 2 instead. I doubt UVA, or any college for that matter, would consider a relatively poor Math 1 score if you had a better one or a better Math 2 score. I know that UVA (although maybe not other schools), in regards to the general SAT, only looks at the highest subscores, from any attempts, which suggests to me that they apply a similar policy to the Subject Tests.</p>
<p>In any case, there’s no reason I can think of to cancel your scores outright. You can always choose to not send them in later.</p>
<p>I submitted Math I to UVA and was accepted. Then again, I also submitted Math II and scored higher on that than I did on Math I. It’s not easier than Math II in my opinion. It’s harder. There aren’t way less 800s because people who aren’t “skilled” at math take it. The curve is much worse, the questions are often much more logic-based like the SAT I, and the extra material on Math II isn’t anything difficult anyway. No point in canceling your score if you only omitted 7 questions. At worst you would score something like a 600-650. FYI SAT II scores between 600-700 are absolutely fine for an in-state UVA applicant. I personally know students who scored around a 610 each on all their tests and were accepted.</p>
