UVA Mclntire!!!!

Hi, I am senior applying to UVA and plan to get into Mclntire.

I want to major in overall operation, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, etc.. and work at consulting companies like Deloitte, Mckinsey, Accenture, etc..
My final goal is to establish my own business/enterprise after some experience.
I am not really considering majoring in analytic fields or finance, or working at investment bankings after graduation. Neither do I have interest in mathematical things nor am I good at those.
(Though I am well aware of the current trend and popularity of majoring in Finance..)

For student like me, is Mclntire proper?
There are some schools which do not fit me, for example, CMU Tepper, which puts its emphasis on quantitative and analytic-based programs.

Which career path do graduates of Mclntire mostly take?

Well, you don’t even apply to McIntire until your second year so you are a way off.

But to answer your question McIntire sends a ton of grads to consulting companies every year. You can’t go wrong by choosing one of the top business (commerce ;))schools in the country.

Wish I can get into UVA Class of 2016!

Thank you again!

Good luck! Most of the good consulting firms definitely recruit at McIntire.

Regardless of where you go to school, make sure you do take some classes in quantitative analysis – consulting firms look for that sort of thing, since it’s a major part of the work they do.

Though I want to work at consulting firms, actually my plan is rather vague.
I don’t really know what skills do I need to have in order to work there.
I just thought that I would be better off at field where I can develop the client company’s strategies and fix their problems, in any way such as marketing, general operation, human resources, etc…

Is quantitative analysis needed here as well?
Could you plz explain more on this part?

Neither do I like math nor am I good at it, but the current trend seems to mix all those studies with the quantitative and mathematic concept T.T

Maybe, I must strive to overcome my biggest weak point.
Thank you very much for your response :)

You need to be able to do QA to do any type of business job, to be honest. You think that you can come up with a marketing plan if you don’t know how it will affect the rest of the company’s financial situation?

We all have things we aren’t good at. No one’s saying you need to be able to do multivariable calculus or linear algebra. You can’t be successful in any type of business job by trying to get around some type of math. It’s a necessary evil.

Can I apply to Mclntire for business but i don’t know where i want to go in specifically for example, economics, management, accounting etc.

The kind of work you’re describing is strategy consulting – firms like BCG, Bain, and McKinsey, and to a lesser extent Accenture, Deloitte, and Booz Allen Hamilton. As you’re thinking about what you want to study, I’d recommend going to the web sites for some of those firms and reading about what they’re generally looking for.

To answer your most recent question, you don’t have to declare a concentration in McIntire when you apply, but you will have to eventually choose one.
