Lots of folks here have advised the OP to go to Harvard, but none of them have really said why. If it’s just the name and prestige, that’s not a good enough reason.

Just to give you a little input, a friend of mine was in a similar scenario this year. (also wants a work hard/play hard type deal). He visited Harvard and went to a party there which turned out to be pretty crazy and wild. Seriously, those Harvard kids know how to party. He said it was on par with one of the UVA frat parties he’d been to. Both used Natty light as the main “ingredient” for the party.

I think every college uses Natural Light as the main “ingredient.” Well them, and people below the Mason Dixon line. Jokes aside, you also really need to consider the way of you life you enter when attending Harvard. Some people enjoy it, and some people simply hate it. You need to realize the certain level of conceit your classmates are going to have, and the type of students you are going to be going to school with.

I just sent you a PM :)

@robertr: Better name, prestige, location, grad-school placement, intelligence of student body, academic/research opportunities, professor quality, class size, etc. We could back up our reasons for Harvard, but it’s pretty clear OP is well-aware of them. One of the best schools in the world for only a little more money than UVA? Most people would consider it the clear choice. Of course, OP may have his own personal/social reasons for preferring UVA, which is perfectly fine. But, as someone mentioned earlier, Harvard’s party scene certainly isn’t lacking, and it looks like it has just too many advantages to turn down.

Thanks everyone for the input, I really appreciate it. Over the past few days I’ve talked to some harvard and UVA alumni, and I’m definitely leaning toward Harvard.

Alumni are advocates for their own schools. They are great to talk to about opportunities at their schools, but bad to talk to when choosing a school. I remember how my Johns Hopkins alumni interviewer acted as if any JHU degree will open all the doors for you in life (i.e. he was acting like JHU is Harvard, ironically.) If I was in your situation, I’d probably choose Harvard (though not as mindlessly as some people who seem to think your decision requires no thought.) I recommend using personal perceptions above all else. People on CC advocate for certain schools, alumni advocate for their alma mater, and college websites exaggerate their own programs. Visit both and make a decision that way.

Squat247 - didn’t you also say you were attending Middleberry under that forum?

<a href=“Social Houses - Middlebury College - College Confidential Forums”>Social Houses - Middlebury College - College Confidential Forums;

BTW - If this is a true dilemma for you maybe both schools made a mistake.

@CrazyUzer

Hahaha! Nice catch.

To SQUAT 247:

You made right decision : UVA over Harvard. The Harvarders are stereotypes

with limited visions and intellectual bias.

UVA provides well roundedness and better preparation for getting along and working

with other people.

Remember FERMAT : In the end, what counts is getting that JOB

Forget the HAPPINESS>

That was so profound, yianni12.

Is there anything that UVA is as good as Harvard in?

^^^ Maybe football? ;)

If you want to do accounting, (and thus need all the CPA requirements and Big 4 recruiting, come to UVA and then McIntire). If not, go to Harvard and get some really great prestige and connections.
