UVa or NYU

Got accepted to both and want to study Business (maybe Accounting)
Thanks :)

For business I’d say NYU cause there are more opportunities in NYC.

Are you planning on graduate school? I know UVA’s graduate school for business is pretty great. Where you live also comes into factor… if you’re instate for UVA, its so much cheaper that it really outweighs any benefits of NYC. But the choice is really a personal one.

McIntire School of Commerce is ranked #1 for ugrad business schools. Plenty of top businesses, including reps from the Big 4 accounting firms, come to Grounds for recruitment and UVA is still pretty close to Northern VA and Metro DC where there are still ample opportunities.

I’m in the same boat as you. I got into Stern and UVA and plan to major in accounting.

I’m choosing UVA because I’ll be debt free thanks to in-state tuition. I was attracted to NYU’s trendy neighborhoods and its proximity to Wall Street, but now I want UVA’s college experience and campus life. Also, I’m wary about Stern’s deflation curve and its cut-throat undergrad program, which forces one internship after another. If that’s what you want, go for it. I just think the city environment would be too distracting for education.

One more thing, Stern is #1 for finance and about 60-70% of Stern students major in finance. If you’re majoring in something else, you’ll probably be overlooked.

Thanks guys you’re so helpful
I’m personally leaning towards UVa too because of the campus life and superb education but my dad really wants me to go to NYU because of the great opportunities there. So torn between the two…

I’m also really torn between NYU and UVA. Sure, UVA is an excellent school, but studying in a metropolitan landscape, sipping coffee while writing my research paper at the Starbucks on 28th and broadway would be a dream! Also, think about the internships I might be able to get.

This might all just literally come down to a coin flip. XD

Well I got waitlisted fr UVA but got into NYU so I’ll go to stern

“but my dad really wants me to go to NYU because of the great opportunities there”

If you were talking about Columbia…may be, but not NYU~

You know, as someone who lives in NYC, I don’t see how one could go to college here. Don’t get me wrong. New York is an amazing city, but frankly, there are too many distractions. I know if I went to school in NY, I would not have done as well in class simply because I would be going out all the time. Looking back, I’m grateful to have experienced college in a real campus with a lot of school spirit and history. NYU doesn’t really have a campus, and its alumni don’t have too much school loyalty. (Just look at their alumni giving rate esp. for a private school. It’s atrocious; compare that private schools with a more unified experience). And lastly, NYU is so huge. Can you believe it has 41,000 students? It’s like attending the University of Texas.

Great thing about UVA is that the other departments outside McIntire are top-notch, so you can take a variety of classes in your first two years.
