UVa or UIUC? Computer Science major

Hi, everybody. I was admitted by UVa and UIUC as a transfer student.

UVa has a very reputation as a top university but his computer science is not as good. However, compyter science in UIUC is very good, but UIUC ranked 40.

How should I make a decision? Can someone give me some suggestions?

I live in VA but I’m drawing a blank on UIUC. Not familiar. Iowa? Illinois? Indiana? Will employers know the name? You should have done your due diligence before you applied.

UVA has Computer Science in the College of Arts & Sciences as well as Engineering. There is a difference.

Go to the school you feel fits your needs. It’s a pretty easy decision.

Okay. I’m dumb. I would have called it U of Illinois but I see UIUC is acceptable. It’s the flag ship school of Illinois so it’s probably a logical choice. Good luck.

Are you transferring as a second or third year? Instate for either school? What are you interested in doing when you graduate with your CS degree? I would then look at where most graduates head from each school. That would be a starting point. D graduated from UVA with a CS degree (SEAS) and had a great experience. The school is well respected and the professors are accessible and interested in the students. I would not focus on the rankings so much as what school best fits your future aspirations. Good luck, don’t think you can go wrong.

UIUC is home of NCSA. Great Computer Science program. That’s where Marc Andreesen wrote Mosaic.

Both are excellent choices. Are you in state for either? What would they cost? Does climate or location matter to you? Are you planning to go to grad school? Does size matter?
