I'm applying to the aforementioned schools for the spring 2006 term.

Assuming I get accepted into both schools, which one should I pick? Which school will provide me with better (job) opportunities?

do they even accept spring transfers

I think you should wait to see where you get accepted prior to making any sort of decisions.

well.....UVa - cost efficient, a little bit more of the "average college life," larger

Upenn - Prestige

It really depends on what you're planning to persue

it's very simple, take out a coin, flip it, heads=Upenn, tails=UVA
it's the perfect solution!

Both UVA and UPENN (GS) accept spring transfers. And why should I have to wait before I am accepted? I thought the whole point of this board was to ask questions/debate/discuss....

I'm only asking because I have a good shot at both schools.

I'm aware that UPENN is a much better school but how does the GS program stack up? I can't decide if a traditional program at UVA is better or worse than the GS program at Upenn...

call each school and ask which one's better

Either school will help you out in the long run

while yes, the point of this board is to discuss things, i think that it is still a bit premature to make any sort of decisions as to where you should go. what if you pick one, but then don't get accepted to that school? if you have already made up your mind that you want to go to the other school (that you didn't get into) will you truly be happy with the other, knowing it't not where you wanted to go? many many applicants who feel they have a really strong chance of getting in apply - there isn't room for everyone. i know it sounds harsh, but it's the reality of the admissions process.

of course U Penn

UVa all the way :)...the College of Arts and Sciences offers alot of variety...and Charlottesville is really nice...well...aside from the traffic and scorchering summer weather....but it's not TOO CROWDED...it's not horribly gigantic...low crime, nice weather for the most part, great people, lots of diversity...

heh, "lots of diversity"

The better way to decide is to visit each campus/grounds and get a feel for each. Get as much input as you can and then decide. Both have their +/-s, but I'd choose Upenn.

'assuming i accepted both'

thats bad karma dude... I agree with Nikki, wait until you get in before you make the decision.

UPenn is not much better than UVA...is just different

if you want the ivy league name, upenn is clearly the choice

if you want a more of a 'true college' experience with a sprawling campus, D1 sports and a college town go with UVA

The schools are comparable academically so you really gotta visit both and see what you like better

I'll copy and paste Globalist response:

Haha...I'd rather go to one of the best public schools in the country rather than one of the LOWER Ivies. Don't they realize that people think consider the rest of the league prestigious outside of Harvard, Yale, and Princeton because of the halo effect - because they're in the same "league" as HYP? Hello, it's just an athletic conference! (And a tragic one at that.) Twenty years ago, people always confused UPenn w/ Penn State. Probably, a lot of people still do.

As a member of the Yale Club of NY (UVa, Yale & Dartmouth share a clubhouse in NYC), I don't see a difference when it comes to success and intelligence among the alums of the 3 schools. The one difference though is that UVa has a reputation for having pretty girls. (I've heard that from both Yale & Dartmouth alums who try to sneak into UVa parties.) That said, UVa grads hold their own against Penn grads here in the Big Apple.

Furthermore, UPenn is located in a horrible part of Philly. They call the McDonald's there McDeath because of so many past shootings.

Don't get me wrong, Penn is a great school. It does have Wharton after all, but I would still choose UVA over Penn.

Oh well, gotta get back to work.

You can't hate on my 1:42AM grammar :p..."lots of diversity"...wow

Hummm...

I would definately pick the liberal arts department at Upenn over the one at UVA. However, I am applying to the General Studies Program at Upenn - any thoughts on the GS program?

"I would definately pick the liberal arts department at Upenn over the one at UVA"

If you already made up your mind...why are you asking?
