I am admitted to U of Virginia, and U of Texas at Austin(business school). think i am going to major in accounting... which one should i choose? where am i more likely to get a job after graduation?

Either school will open doors for you. However, most Big Five firms recruit locally: There are probably thousands of Texas accounting grads working in Houston, Austin, and Dallas, while you’ll probably find a lot of UVA alumni in Washington, DC, Baltimore, and other cities on the east coast.

If you want to work at an accounting firm it doesn’t matter.
If you want to go into I-Banking etc UVa is more of a target school.

Do you want to work in Northeast of South ? Austin’s Business school is very good. University of Virginia is better overall. I would go with Virginia.

I’d pick UVA in your situation because McIntire is a better undergrad b-school overall. Your business interests might change as an undergrad so you shouldn’t choose a school based on its reputation in one field. UT Austin is fairly good for regional firms, but McIntirehas a stronger reputation worldwide.

Keep in mind that UVA does not admit freshmen into its business program – you have to apply at the end of your sophomore year. The applicant pool is somewhat self-selecting, as I understand you shouldn’t bother unless your college GPA is at least 3.6 and you have demonstrated leadership in your first 2 years. Of those that do apply, I believe something like 70% (?) are accepted. I could be off a bit on the exact numbers, but you get the idea.

It was one reason DS didn’t really consider UVA – he didn’t want to invest 2 years at a school that would not have otherwise been his first choice, only to find that he had to transfer somewhere else if he wasn’t able to get into McIntire.

i agree with you, Dominar. I’ve chosen UT Austin Thank you a lot :))))
