Title of thread pretty much sums it up...

However, i guess i should go into more detail.
My parents say that tuition is not a factor in my decision.
As far as prestige.. which one outdoes the other?
I plan on going into medicine, which school would be the best to get me into Med School??

And of course, social life at Vanderbilt I already know is great (I went there for MOSAIC Weekend), so if anyone knows something about UVA's social life I would appreciate any information!

Thank you all in advance for you help in one of the biggest decisions in my life!

I believe that UVA has more prestige. In regards to med school, you would probably get into a better one from UVA since its easier to get a higher GPA there and thats really important. Also it has an on campus hospital (I dunno if Vandy does or not).

I also had to choose between UVA and Vanderbilt. I ended up choosing Vandy for a variety of reasons.

Vanderbilt is stronger in the sciences than UVA. Class sizes are much smaller than those at UVA. Also, at UVA, the large student body insinuates many courses taught by TAs; at Vandy, that is not the case. Profs are required to teach undergraduates in order to maintain their research grant. Yes, Vany has a campus hospital. In fact, the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center is highly regarded as one of the best cancer centers in the nation.

Socially, the two are also quite different. An overwhelming majority of UVA students come from the state of Virginia (somewhere along the lines of 70%). Vanderbilt is much more geographically diverse. Although racial diversity is more abundant at UVA, Vanderbilt is becoming more racially diverse than in years past (an increase of 15% minority applicants this year). Both have strong Greek life, but the thing that separates the social life at Vanderbilt from UVA is the location. While Charlottesville is a cool college town, Nashville is a capital city with a thriving economy. The music scene is great, but Vandy will offer you the perks of the big city whereas UVA and its surrounding area can't.

lmao, my dad went to Vanderbilt and my mom went to UVA.
Idk which I'd pick.

Vanderbilt has one of the best hospitals in the state, as well as the most prestigious medical program in the state, so yes there.

Honestly, before coming on CC, I had no idea about UVA, but I did know how prestigious Vandy is.

Thanks ALOT for the replies, you don't realize how helpful your thoughts are.

I truly appreciate anymore that people have, and all of the ones people have posted so far! Thanks again.
