UVA or William and Mary Math major

Title says it all.
UVA or William and Mary?

Some of the things I care about:
Prestige
Academics
Graduate School opportunities

I'm a math major interested in set/group theory, and mathematical logic

If you care about prestige, academics and grad school opps, UVa’s definitely a better choice. UVa has 5 algebraists, 4 of whom are group theorists…you should talk to one of them.

W&M doesn’t have any grad school opportunites while you’re an undergrad… UVA does. UVA is really geared towards grad school in its undergrad curriculum. You’ll likely have more opportunities here. I always tell people who are not grad-oriented to beware of UVA math because of this.

I’m a mathematics major and a Virginia resident as well. These are both an option for me, but I am hoping to get into a more prestigious mathematics school like NYU. Neither UVA or W&M have the strongest math programs, but I will may end up at UVA due to finances. It is the better choice. Go with UVA.

I have a friend who is pursuing mathematics here. He picked UVa over W&M due to its preparation for graduate school. There is a specific subset of the math major that is graduate preparatory.
