Uva please chance me!!

Hi, I am currently a freshman at Boston University and I am wanting to transfer to UVA. Fall semester, I came out with a 3.3 (not too wonderful, I know), however, I am very interested in applying to UVA as a transfer for next fall. I was hoping you guys could advise me as to whether I stand a chance.

I am out-of-state
My high school GPA (we used the 12 point scale) was a 10.1, so on the 4 point scale that's about a 3.7
I made a 30 on the ACT
I had awesome essays and a well-rounded resume

At BU, I'm currently on the equestrian team and in a sorority (no idea if that makes a difference). I know UVA will want to see my second semester transcript, but upon admission all they will see is this fall. Do you think I stand a chance? and if y'all could provide any advice or recommendations, that would be wonderful. Should I consider a personal interview?

I don’t think you have a particularly great chance as a transfer applicant. Because current college sophomores and juniors have more semesters to show UVA that they are capable college students, they get priority over freshman transfer applicants (who only have one semester to their names).

I would expect the average GPA of transfer students at UVA to be roughly 3.6-3.7, since it is such a competitve school. In order to have a good chance as a freshman transfer applicant, you would might need to get a 4.0 in your first semester.

I would suggest staying at Boston another year to get your GPA up, then transfer to enter UVA as a junior. But, if you really have your heart set on attending UVA this fall, it never hurts to try.
