UVA Regular Decision Class of 2018

Just decided to start up this thread for anyone who wants to comment whether it's about admissions or UVA in general (:

Great idea! I’m Sam, I applied RD to UVA’s engineering school. I also applied to VT’s engineering school, so I’ll have quite the decision to make if I get into both! to future posters: what drew you to apply to UVA? I’m curious.

@Apalapa I’m so nervous! I applied to Tech’s engineering school and got in. I got the opportunity to apply RD super early and learned about it in September. I like UVA because of the beautiful campus, great history, and how well known it is across the world really.

@BDM1994 I loved both schools when I visited! Virginia Tech was absolutely beautiful, and I felt like I was in Hogwarts  to be frank, I was not even going to consider UVA for engineering at all until I applied for AFROTC. VT was clearly the better choice for engineering to me, but…I’m also debating about how I would be able to handle VT’s corps of cadets, and if UVA would be better for that or not.

@Apalapa yeah I don’t know how I would handle that either!! haha

Pssst… only worry about program reputation for postgrad, pick based on reputation for undergrad… therefore UVA > VT for all undergrad.

I would say Tech personality> UVA personality. Please keep that in mind.

I’m not sure why ltjenkins has been so negative towards UVA’s students and personality, but my OOS middle class son has found UVAs environment to be welcoming and exciting. The engineering program is very solid, and there have been some great investments in the program recently including the opening of Lacy Hall. Both VT and UVA are excellent schools. With that said, their engineering programs do have different focus, and before selecting a school you should check into which program suits you better.

Hello I’m just wondering if I could get into UVA in state.
I have a 4.18 GPA, will be a 4.25 by years end. I am a senior with a 1740 sat and 24 act.(low?) I have taken 11 AP’s. 6 my senior year. I now have straight A’s for my senior year.
For my extracurriculars
I did cross country 1 year
French club 4 years
American red cross 2 year
DECA 4 years (leadership officer)
TSA 1 year
Beta club 2 years
mu alpha theta

For my volunteering
45 hours at a Hospital
45 hours at a Children’s museum
12 hours for the ken cucinelli campaign

What is your gpa out of? Your scores are kind of low but you did take a rigorous course load and it looks like a big upward trend! I think there’s a chance but the scores are kind of low. What classes did you take your junior and senior year? @ThomasJefferson9

The GPA is out of 4, but it is weighted which is why it is higher. Junior year I have taken ap language, ap stats, ap chemistry, ap us history, honors physics, honors french, and honors trig.

Senior year I am taking AP lit, AP physics, AP calc, AP bio, AP environmental, AP GOV, and honors engineering

How many B’s have you gotten? @ThomasJefferson9 If it’s out of 4.0 you must have gotten great grades in hard classes which is good. I think your test scores are the only things setting you back

I have gotten 14 B’s and 9 A’s

Unfortunately It has taken me my senior, where I took the most rigorous course compared to my other years, to get straight A’s. The irony

I think it just depends. To be honest, most students get mostly As with a few Bs here or there and there scores are higher. The mid 50% for ACT is 29-33. UVA looks at applications holistically though so you never know! If you have good essays, are a URM, have awesome extracurriculars, etc you have a better chance.

I understand how you feel. The 4/5 B’s I’ve gotten were in middle school and freshman year. I have straight A’s as well this year!

What is a URM

Oh yeah I also got 610 math 1 sat II and
630 math 2 sat II and my two score was 1190 for regular sat, but is was only 1740 bc I did bad on the writing

Under Represented Minority! Being instate will boost your chances as well

Idk if I’m an underrepresented minority. I am Indian, and uva is predominantly white so I guess that counts

Yeah that may help! I’m not sure really but it probably will
