Hi, I have question about UVA.

Does UVA take the highest scores in each section of the SAT?

Is it true that I can take the SAT as many times as I want and UVA wont care?

What is average SAT score for in-state student?

Thank you.

Yes, UVA will take the highest score on each section.

I'm not sure if you can take it as many times as you want, but 3-4 times would be fine. Princeton, for example, doesn't care how many times you take the SAT. Regional rep Chris Burkmar told me that you could take it 5,6,7 times - and they wouldn't care. In fact, as he said, the admissions committee would never know; low-level interns and secretaries are the ones who handle that stuff. Anyways, I'm not sure what UVA's stance on this is, so you might want to call them. I say take it until you're happy with your score.

The average SAT score for instate students is in the mid to high 1200's, as supported by this website: http://www.discriminations.us/storage/002125.html

That being said, the distribution of scores is probably heavily skewed to the right.

wow thanks for the link. Now I am kind of scared because I am from Northern VA :(

It's still not amazingly hard to get in from northern VA. 47% acceptance rate? avg SAT of 1280ish? I'm sure you can do it.

make sure you have a 3.7+, otherwise they won't want you. On the other hand if you do have the 3.7, they'll be happy to have you.

my current gpa is above 3.7 :)
if all goes well with my APs this year, itll be ever higher

I went to Robinson in NOVA, and the cutoff it seemed to be a 3.9, all the valedictorians went there and pretty much no one else. Oh and by the way they all took all APs and IBs.

interesting

at my school (SL) it seemed to go down to 3.7. Our "honor graduates" (4.0+ kids, there were 12) went to Duke, Yale, Penn, USC, Richomnd, Academies, UVA (x5) and W&M.

I guess they have established cut offs for each school, at least in NOVA.

I would advise you to check with records of previous years at your school. My school keeps the last few years worth on file with GPA, SAT score, IB classes taken, full Diploma, etc. And then accepted / rejected / waitlisted.
