I'm applying ED to UVA, and the application is due Nov 1, with decisions out by Dec 1. The thing is that the application says that I must take my SATI by October, and I have until the December test date to take the SATIIs. I'm already signed up to retake the SAT in October, and I want to retake SATII's in November, The test date being Nov 4. Will the school get my SATII scores from November in time for the December decisions?

I would like to know too. If I take an SAT II in October or November will they receive it for ED?

correct me if im wrong, but while UVA highly recommends SAT 2s, they are not required. so even if they didnt receive them in time, it shouldnt be held against you

no, im pretty sure they won't. however it depends on the school.
i asked caltech admissions:
I was just wondering, if you are planning to take the SAT on November 4, 2006 and request rush delivery to you school, will it reach in time for Early Action?
They Replied:
You must apply Regular Decision. We will not receive your scores in
time.

The app says that they accept SAT IIs for ED until December, which doesn't really make sense considering that dec. 1 is when they plan to have results by.

Give us a call when things like this come up, okay?

For some strange reason, I clicked on this forum, which I rarely do, and saw this thread.

Test scores from the October SAT will reach us in time for ED consideration. If you apply ED and take tests in November or December, they would be helpful in the event that you are deferred to regular decision.

The instructions say that ED applicants can take December tests because you need to sign up for those way before you'd know the result of your ED application. I'll try to make that clearer on next year's application.

Give us a call if any other questions arise (9-5 PM at 434-982-3200 or 24/7 at undergradadmission@virginia.edu). A dean is "on call" everyday to talk about things like this and we're more than happy to chat with you!

You should note that SAT II test scores taken Nov 4 have a good chance of getting to the college by December 1 if you designate the college as a recipient on your app (or rush them after getting the score if the school accepts rush scores) because those scores are likely to be out by third week in Nov. It is the Nov SAT that will definitely not get there by Dec 1 because it takes longer to grade now with its writing section.

December 1 is the notification date, which means it's when we mail decisions. Think backward on that...mailing on 12/1 means letters are printed and stuffed before that date, which means the actual decisions are made a bit earlier than that.

November test scores will not get to us in time for ED review. See them as helpful if you get the defer letter.

I see. Well, I'm already signed up for a SATI retake in October. My first score was 2100 anyway so I wasn't too worried about that. However, my SATII's were closer to 700-650 and I knew I could've done better. I also wanted to take the Physics one. I guess I'll have to continue my current testing plan and, if my SATII scores happen to fail me in ED, I could hope for getting deferred. Thanks for the help everyone.
