UVA SEAS Transfer

How easy is it to transfer into the School of Engineering at UVA from their school of architecture, if you are a current UVA student?

It depends on a number of factors, but it’s generally possible. If you’re a first year, it will be much easier to transfer into the E school, both from an administrative standpoint and in terms of finishing your required classes in a reasonable time frame. The important thing, though, is how many spots SEAS has available for students to transfer into. Total SEAS enrollment is (roughly) capped, which is why students apply directly into it out of high school. Spots become available as engineering students transfer out into other schools, which I know happens in waves over the summer and during the first semester. Beyond that, it’s kind of a guessing game in terms of how full the E school is.

I’d say you have a pretty good chance of getting the switch as long as your grades are good and you aren’t too far along in your academics to finish an engineering degree in four years. Bonus points if you’ve taken/have credit for some core engineering classes (calc, physics, chem, etc.).
