UVa Status???

Interesting read...

<a href="http://www.stanfordalumni.org/news/magazine/2005/marapr/features/transfers.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.stanfordalumni.org/news/magazine/2005/marapr/features/transfers.html</a></p>

i just checked my status, and the selection box on the right changed color...or at least the text color. Its all dark now...not that that means anything haha..

mike-

same thing happened to my status...it means we're in (riiight I wish)

hahaha...you guys are too funny. Hmmm...darker shaded box = Accepted! I wondered about that too. Must be something going on with their system.

atleast you know they're doing SOMETHING

The darker shaded menu box is now light again. Maybe that means the letters have been sent out, lol.

my status just changed to "Your application status is not available at this time"...better late than never :). BTW, did we ever determine what the (most likely) meant?

Yours just now changed? Mine changed on 4/11. Not sure what all this means, if anything.

I guess if it's based on when decisions are made, it probably doesn't take any time at all to reject. hehe

Im pretty sure the change in status doesnt mean much (if anything)...and even if it did I would never be able to guess what it means. I called the admin office today and the woman said they would be mailing out the letters and changing the online status a week from friday(4/29) @5pm. Kind of a blanket statement, but I DID mention I was an architecture applicant (not sure if she caught that or took it into consideration in her response though). Wont keep me from checking 5million times a day though :). Don't worry though Katt, the news from my friend w/a 2.9 getting into AandS gives me great hope for your (and anyone else not applying to the a-school) chances.

one of the ladies at the receptionist's desk is really rude...she is the one who usually answers the phone. Most of the time she interrupts me before I even finish asking my question. She is like a gatekeeper--it takes a whole lot to get her to let you talk to the dean of the day

Yeah that sounds like the woman I spoke to. I understand though because they probably have on average 100 applicants a day pestering them about mundane issues (me being one of them).

hell it's their job to answer the phone they might as well learn to love it!

Yeah... I called earlier today on my way to class... and they told me 4/29 also. Sooner notification is better... and at the same point... I'm so nervous... if only I would've realized I wanted to switch majors 6 months earlier... then I probably would've had my good gpa from this semester with my releveant courses (I'm still going to have it... but it won't count for more than the little, if any, credence given to midterm grades) instead of my lower grades from last semester in not-so-relevant courses. Seriously though, last semester is really the only glaring weak part of my application (well SAT II's are only average, but they aren't really considered by UVA, right?). Well, I haven't had any 300 level courses either. But my first two semesters, I was trying to find a minor, so I took econ, politics, and history courses. Then this semester, I was taking courses to try and fill my pre-req's for transferring, since I was switching majors. Oh well... we'll know in about a week, I guess. Haha... I haven't ranted here for a while.

Katt, I think it's more of when the apps are processed, like standing in line. Perhaps a two tier process. 1st wave - most desirable, 2nd wave - next desirable. There are a lot of 4.0s out there. I'm glad UVa pays attention to grade inflation...

There was one change I saw in a statement by President Casteen this year. UVa has gone from a "need-blind" to a "need-conscious" admission process. They certainly are throwing a lot of money at the AccessUVa program.

Stumper-
Could you explain this "need-conscious" concept? Am I correct in assuming that students who apply for fin aid are at a disatvantage?..or advantage? Or is it based on your household income?

Wonder why some students accepted can see their SAT scores on ISIS and some can't. WEIRD!

oh yeah and Toph-

I feel you on the "wishing you knew about your major" issue prior to applying to UVa. If I could go back 2 months ago I would've applied to either McIntire or A&S (and not be potentially screwed by the a-school's horrible acceptance rate).

I can't find the article where Casteen mentions the change, but here's an article where Dean Blackburn discusses the "need-conscious" change...

<a href="http://www.virginia.edu/insideuva/freshman.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.virginia.edu/insideuva/freshman.html</a></p>

Well... I knew what I wanted to apply for when I did... like I applied to the right program... I just wish I would've been showing them A's in accounting and math courses instead of B+'s in journalsim courses. And I realized sometime in the middle of last semester that I wasn't going to be a journalist... but obviously that was part way through the semester. I almost decided not to pursue journalism sometime in the midst of my freshman year... but I decided to give it another chance.

And AS... I don't know that applying to McIntire is that much better than apply to the A-school... it might be a little bit higher acceptance rate... but not much.
