Does UVa require second semester grades? Anyone???

No. But I'll probably send mine anyways since my grades dipped a bit last semester.

Had 3.81 and 3.74 as a freshman then dropped to a 3.46 Fall this year.. but midterms should be between 3.6 and 3.85, so I'd like to send them and probably will to show that last semester was a fluke.

Do you think they ever ask for them if they think you're borderline? I had a 3.65 first semester but this semester it'll be lower for sure, maybe even a 3.3.

Toph,
Do you mean freshman in college or high school?

I was referring to college...

High school they ask for mid-year.

I'm going to call them at some point and ask about sending them. They might also want final grades if you are borderline.

Oh yeah, i forgot that you had mentioned that you were a freshman. I'm 95% sure UVA doesnt have a required mid-term report...but you might want to make sure(let me know if they do).

buckeye,
I checked the website again and it states that only first year students need to send in a mid-term report. Makes me feel a little better.

first year as in applying from HS right? not first year transfers? Yeah beacause i dont know about you but i would have nothing to send...OSU is on the quarter system.

Sorry, yeah, that's from HS. Do you really think they'll wait till the 1st of May to start posting acceptances/rejections online? Honestly, the torture they put us through!

Yes...unfortunately they do and they WIILL wait untill may 1st. They last day to drop classes without any marks at OSU is the 15th of April so I couldnt drop any of the courses that wont transfer, i think they collaborated on that one, haha.

Wow, OSU gives you a lot more time than UMD. Last day to drop for us without penalty is March 14. I really hope I get in, not only because I'm in C'Ville, but because it's such a great school, especially for poly-sci.

Yeah im bitting my nails about getting accepted too. I seriously check the status report page everyday even though i know it wont change until 05/01..haha. Even if i dont get in im not going back to OSu and will probably stay @ home for a semester and go to george mason(yuck!). But hey, there's always W and M for polisci, i will be applying there if i dont get into UVA for sure. Plus, as in-state students we have a strong advantage for acceptance to UVA's wonderful law school.

lol, I've been checking every day too! Maybe we're both a little overly obsessed, eh? I have a friend that goes to GMU (freshman) and he loves it there, so maybe it wouldn't be as bad as you think. It's no UVa, but like you said, you can always apply again. I sure hope you're right with that strong advantage bit of being in-state. I don't know whether I would go to VaTech or JMU if accepted, or just stay here at UMD. May be a waste of time to even think about that if I don't receive any acceptances. At lease UMD is a good school too.

Dont get me wrong, george mason would be ok...its just the fact that it's 5 minutes from my house(Ohio is too far, but 5 minutes is pushing it). If you want my advice I would say to stay at Maryland if you dont get in, but thats just me because I'm not a big fan of either tech or JMU.

Yeah, being away from home definitely has its advantages, but I really like my hometown and miss my friends there. Quite a few of them attend UVa, Tech and JMU. What is it about Tech and JMU that you don't like?

My disliking of tech and JMU is personal, dont get me wrong. It's just that the people from high school who went there I didnt really care for....and not to mention that JMU is the "STD capital of the country", haha. And, in general, the idea of going to a technical school just does not appeal to me. Its just a number of personal things that I have gathered about both JMU and tech that I just dont like for some reason.

Hey buckeye, I'm really feeling pretty down about my chances of getting into UVa now. It looks like everyone has higher stats and/or more schooling than me. I was really hoping my EC's and essay would be good enough, but I don't think they will be. Looks like I'll have to concentrate on staying here. :(

I think you have as good as a shot as anyone else...i've seen alot of people with gpas less than a 3.4 applying(not tomention i have a friend who goes to WVU applying with a 3.0). And didnt you say that you had alot of HS EC's?? I would think that UVA will see that and realize that you're an interesting person, but that you have just not had too much time in college to add any extra stuff. Plus, the way i look at it is that I am who I am and if they like it great, but if not there's nothing I can do. On a side note, I am applying to George Washington right now because I just found out that their app isnt due until 5/01.

Thanks buckeye. Yeah, I have pretty substantial EC's in high school and even some good ones here at UMD, but I don't know if it will make up for the 1200 SAT and 3.5 gpa in hs. And, I only had a 3.65 my first semester here. Even though I made the Dean's List, it's not like the average 3.8 student applying to UVa. But, I agree with you though, read my app and essay, and if you don't like me, fine! You're right, that's about all we can do. I believe a lot of it is just plain ole luck. It's a numbers game from what I understand. Heck, I might even apply to George Washington too! Gotta keep those options open. I think you meant to say their app is due 4/01 and not 5/01. I haven't looked at it too hard yet, but I did notice they want an essay, recs, hs and college report. Not crazy about doing this all over again.

I wouldnt worry too much about your HS performance, from what I hear that is not very important, apparently if you dont have your SAT scores they dont even ask for them. And Im not sure I would agree with the 3.8 average gpa of UVA applicants, but I have no figures to back that up. As far as GW goes, the first portion of their app is due 4/01(the personal/family info), but the second part/supplement(essays, recomendations, ect.) isn't due until 5/01. You're right, doing application essays over again will not be fun, but i plan on using my spring break to do those(not quite as fun as FLA but whatever). The only problem with GW for me is the money, it's not a cheap school to go to. But the selling point for me (or to my parents, haha) is that I could live at home and take the metro to school.
