Uva transfer

3.5 GPA- In-state community college student
Very few extra curricular activities besides some work here and there...

I know it sounds unlikely that I'll get in, but here's the catch:
I attend a community college that offers guaranteed admission to UVA as long as you (1) complete an associates degree, (2)along with the assc. degree complete all the courses that UVA lists as required, and (3) have a 3.4 GPA.
I'm taking 18 credits this coming semester (Spring 2013), but after that I will still need 8 more credits of foreign language in order to qualify for guaranteed admissions, meaning that if I apply for Fall 2013, like I've been planning on doing, then I will NOT be applying under guaranteed admissions, therefore I will be evaluated based on what I've done thus far...

My SAT's from HS also weren't stellar (CR: 690, Math:470 (however I am now taking Calculus), and Writing: 630), but I'm still required to submit them for consideration.

So, how do you think I'll fare given my predicament? Any other community college goers out there who have been in this kind of situation?
Most of all though, do you think the fact that UVA has an agreement with my current college will give me a leg up in the admissions process?
I'll be applying regardless but I am still looking for feedback!

I also go to a Virginia community college, John Tyler Chester campus. Honestly, I think you could have a chance applying as is even without the complete degree.
I feel like the Virginia schools that are tied with the va community colleges tend to treat the students well.
Maybe I’m just optimistic. But I’d apply, and if you don’t get it in. Finish the associates and apply again.
I’m literally in the same boat as you. I’m trying to go to W&M

Ana,

I was in the same position that you are now in back in Spring 2010.

I was finishing up my final semester at a Va Community College (BRCC) that also had the GAA with U.Va.

I received my Associates in May 2010. My stats are very similar to yours as my SAT scores were around the same range as yours. I also took calculus in my final semester in order to compensate for my lackluster SAT Math score.

I came up just a bit short under the GAA and didnt qualify.

HOWEVER…I can tell you now that I was offered admission for Fall 2010, accepted the offer, enrolled, had the time of my life (both academically & socially) and graduated from Mr. Jefferson’s University and I am now a proud U.Va alum!

You’re evaluated on a holistic basis and if you are a strong student it will show in your admission package.

It sounds like you’re on the right track. Good luck and WAHOOWA!

Transfer students are still required to send in SAT and high school transcripts no matter how many credits they have correct? Also anyone know if it’s easier fall or spring semester?

Thanks so much for the posts! And yes, summerchica, for UVA they still require you to submit both SAT scores and High School transcripts. They let far fewer people in for the Spring semester so, like at most schools, it’s easier to be admitted for Fall semster.

please chance me

OOS
College GPA: 3.82
HS GPA: 3.0
ACT: 26
Good Essays, Great extracurriculars & Great Recommendations

Will my high school grades and standardized test scores prevent me from being accepted>

this is from U.Va’s transfer FAQs page:

Is the SAT or ACT required for admission?

Yes, however we will waive the testing requirement if you have been out of high school for five years. If a student is applying to Commerce, however, SAT or ACT testing(or the TOEFL or IELTS for international students)is REQUIRED for all students seeking admission.

I haven’t been out of high school for five years.
Thanks for your input though.
