i know this is jumping the gun a bit, but hear me out.

uva was my dream school, not only because of all-around awesomeness, but because of in-state tuition. i didn't get financial aid at schools i got into (rhodes, sewanee, dickinson...), and i was rejected from uva as an in state legacy student. so, i will be attending ole miss in the fall, which will be about $15,000/year more than uva, so i am considering transferring after a year if i can. i cannot put this stress on my family for four years. what kind of grades do i need at ole miss to be a competitive transfer at uva? i know that i will probably love ole miss - it's not a question of whether i am dissatisfied with the school i am going to. it's 92 percent a financial thing!

If you're already planning on transferring, then you should probably just go to a Virginia CC. After two years of CC, all you need to do is completed the required classes with a 3.4 and you're automatically accepted into UVA.

From Ole Miss, you probably need a GPA of at least 3.5, but probably 3.6-3.7 to have a good shot for sophomore transfer admissions.

Ole Miss is an easy school--especially Freshman year. If you're really set on transferring to UVa sophomore year, I suggest you really consider your priorities because it's easy to get lost in the partying/bars/greek life at Ole Miss freshman year. I went to Ole Miss for my freshman year and transferred my sophomore year. I left with a 4.0--I took basic classes, but managed my time well between sorority stuff, going out, and school. You'll do fine and will be able to transfer to UVa easily IF you keep your priorities straight :)

I got into UVA as an OOS with a 3.8-ish GPA at UCSD. I think as long as you maintain anything above a 3.7 at Ole Miss and keep an upward trend and DON'T apply to McIntire which is basically impossible to get into, you should have a pretty good shot. UVA admitted something like 34% of all transfer applicants last year, that's better than 1 in 3.
