UVA Transfer

UVA-McIntire: Rejected.

boohoo. Wasn’t too surprised.

Current: Grand Rapids Community College (MI)
4.0 Cum GPA
Pre Med
25 ACT
2.7 GPA Prestigious High School

Decent Rec’s Decent Essay
Created the Salem Avery Children of Alcoholics Scholarship at GRCC
MMA Fighter and many other recs and clubs

Comment: Obviously my high school GPA and ACT were low but I thought they would focus primarily on my college work; apparently not. Some prestigious school like University of Michigan accept students like me (I was accepted) but a lot of prestigious schools have so many 4.0’s they have to revert to high school scores.

Congrats to everyone who got in

Congratulations. Why is it easier to get into U of M, compared with gaining admission to UVA? Which college were you accpted by? Business college? Is it easier for you to transfer in state, compared with transfering to out-of-state universities? i am also applied for UVA, but i get rejected. I have already transfered once from my Chinese University to MSU. then i get 3.94 within one and a half years of study here. I don’t have a lot of activities in MSU. Do you think i can have a pretty good chance to gain admission to U of M? But, i knew that the ross had a 3 years business programme, so i have to spend an additional year to gain my bachelor’s degree.

I got in lol

To brahmadyj:Can you please post your status? so that we can understand what kind of person UVA likes.

Rejected from College of Engineering

College GPA: 3.267 (at a top 40 school)
HS GPA: 3.22
ECs: Rowing, orchestra, volunteer work
Recs: A great guy who happens to be my adviser and my former professor
Essays: Decent enough, probably not the best I could have done

Honestly not that surprised. Hopefully I’ll be going to VT in the fall.

To skx46 :
If you already studied in a top 40 collge, why are you going to transfer to VT? Vitginia Tech is only a top 80 College. I did not even see the necessity to transfer to UVA

hughxu: I hate it here, I want to pay in-state tuition instead of 40 grand a year, and the engineering program at VT is wayyy better. :)

@ hughxu
I dont mean to stick my nose into your business, but are you planning to apply again next year?

well, since i am already a junior student, and i can finnish my bachelor’s degree within one and a half years, so it might be impossible for me to transfer again. Plus, the business college of UVA is extremely competitive. Out-of-State Students almost don not have any chance. I think applying for economics majore in the liberal arts and science college would be a comparatively good idea. They ususally have a higher acceptance ratio, compared with other colleges especially the Business. I am planning to apply for the accounting graduate programme to a prestigious University.

To all of you: Do you guys agree that applying for a graduate programme in a prestigious university is even harder than undergraduate transfering? I am planning to apply for an accounting graduate programme in a prestigious University, do you think that it would very hard for me to get in, especially, if my undergraduate university is not very prestigious?

I think applying to grad school is actually easier than applying as transfer. At least there are more “controllable factors” - GPA, GRE, Work Experience; whereas it takes some blind luck for transfer application, because it sometimes depends on the freshman retention rate and other statistic.
Honestly if you are majoring in accounting at Michigan State with a decent GPA, you have a great chance of going to Schools like UIUC or UT (Top 2 in accounting). Several of my friends have done so, and their stats aren’t that outstanding afterall.
祝你好運.

Thank you. 谢谢! But, anyways, i still feel that in state transfer would be much easier than out-of-state transfer.

hughxu,

I feel the same way. UVA is another UC type school that favors in-state community college as well as in state students who went to other VA/ out of state colleges (Both jr and 4 year). I mean UNC is harder to get into for freshmen year for OOS applicants, yet it seems more people get in out of state for transfer.

Everyone I know who got into UVA is a resident of Virginia.

Accepted: arts and sciences, economics
current school: University of Toronto, commerce
status: citizen of China, permanent resident of Canada
so I’m both international transfer and inter-program transfer…

GPA:3.79/4.0, did very good in eco classes. First year eco, got 100, rank 1 out of 1000+,lol
SAT: 2010, did SAT last year, got 1910 first time, 2010 second time
ECs: average, some clubs and tutoring
work experience: average: internships in China, not big firms; I registered my own company
Recommendation: didn’t send
essays: nothing special, but I emphasize on my adaptability to new environment which I think is one of the most important criterias for international transfers.

I feel very fortunate to get accepted; my stat is not outstanding. For those who got rejected, I’m sure some other great schools will accept you, never lose hope!

btw, could anyone tell me the deadline of accept/decline the admission offer?
I’m still waiting for other schools.

Deadline is May 15th.

UVAhopeful, did you find out?

Oh, right. Sorry about that. Probably should have posted in my own thread. Heh. I got waitlisted. I’m working on finishing this semester strong and trying to get off it though! Congrats to all who got in! And good luck to all the waitlisted! And sorry to all the rejected; I know it sucks. But you’ll do fine wherever you end up! :)

So, is it true that private Universities don not have such a huge difference in quota between the in-state and out-of-state student?
