i'm actually thinking about goin to it...only if a bunch of my friends go though.

www.virginia.edu and then in the "people search' type in your name and see if they have you in the database yet....if not then you can't set up your email account

Hello to everybody.

I have been accepted to McIntire as an out-of state transfer, and i have a question about the housing assignments. Which of these 6 housings would be the best in terms of conditions, and proximity to McIntire classes: One is Copeley 3, Faulkner, Bice, Lamberth and Gooch-Dillard.
I appreciate your help and wish you luck on your finals.

Since Monroe Hall (where most McIntire classes are) is in central grounds, that pretty much rules out Copeley 3 and Faulkner unless you want to make a long hike. Lambeth might be more reasonable, but you're still looking at a fair commute. I would suggest also avoiding Gooch-Dillard since that is over by the stadium and would probably be just as far as say Faulkner. I'd say your best bet, transit-wise, might be Bice. Bice is within decent walking distance of Central Grounds, though I hear the living conditions aren't spectacular.

If you haven't already surmised this, UVa on grounds housing isn't anything special for upperclassmen. I might suggest looking for somewhere off campus if you can get someone/someones to live with. Try here: http://www.universityoffgrounds.com/

Thanks "theslammer". I appreciate your help.
I have one more question about housing, if you have time to answer it. Since i might not be able to live off compus at least for this semester, is there any other dorm apart from Brown close to McIntire and dinning halls?

P.S. Is Bice close to dinning halls?

Thanks

There are three main dining halls on campus. Newcomb, O'Hill and Runk. While obviously Brown would be ideal for you (right next door to Monroe and Newcomb), barring that Bice is pretty close to Newcomb. If I were to guess, it would probably be about a 10-15 minute walk to Newcomb, and likewise to Monroe, from Bice. As for the other halls, Gooch/Dillard are next door to Runk and I don't think Lambeth is unreasonably far from Newcomb. The other residence halls are all fairly far from dining.

I am pleased (and very much relieved) to announce that I have secured a 1 BR apartment!!! I just got back from Charlottesville and traffic was TERRIBLE. Best of all, the community that my apartment is a part of was built about a year ago, so everything is new and in great condition! I am very excited!! Good luck to everyone else and their housing adventures. If you want the name of the apartment community, PM me...there's still one 1 BR apartment left.

christophsky, I'm not interested, but just out of curiosity --

how much is rent?

christophsky....i am almost positive I am getting my apartment on the corner...where is urs?

Als0310, my apartment is to the south of campus in a residential area. It's about 4 miles away.

"theslammer" thanks for your help. But i have a last question.

How many minutes it takes approximately from Lambeth to Monroe building? and how many from Bice?
And, Is Lambeth much better than Bice?

Thanks "theslammer". i know i am becoming bothersome with these simple questions, but housing is a big deal these days. :)

If anyone knows these questions please help. Thanks in advance

El-t-toon,

Bice isn't that much closer to Monroe than Lambeth is. The travel time may differ, though, because from Bice you can cut through old grounds whereas from Lambeth you are crossing major roads, etc.

I don't actually go to the school (yet), I'm just pretty familiar with the dorms and the layout of campus since I have visited there numerous times. You may want to head over to the actual UVA forum and ask questions there about travel times and living conditions.

Here are some maps that should help you figure out the grounds.

has anyone been able to get a computing ID, the housing deadline is fast approaching and we NEED a stupid ID to register for housing!!!!!!!

wmrocks, yes, I have a computing ID. Note that you cannot obtain a computing ID until your name is in the online directory. Search for your name here: http://www.virginia.edu/dir.html

uhm... great now everybody has my cell number.

Has anybody received credit evaluation yet?

Is anybody trying to get an exemption for foreign language?

Ugh, foreign language....I'm so glad SEAS doesn't require a foreign language.

Hey! My friend and I are looking for a roommate for a 3 bedroom apartment on JPA!...1910 JPA or the new Carrolton Terrace apartments! Rent will be about $430 a month for 1910 and then $490 a month for Carrolton Terrace; costs include heating, water, electricity, internet, cable...we're both bringin couches, tv, chairs tables and stuff for the living area. Both are VERY nice apartments with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Looking for someone whose serious about their schoolwork, but still fun and outgoing afterwards. Respectful when any of us are studying, etc. My friend and I will be quiet and give you as much space as you need when you need it...I can help in chemistry or political science classes whenever needed. Don't mind if you have a girlfriend/boyfriend stay overnight in your room sometimes, or if you have a few friends over, as long as one of us isn't too busy, and we'll respect the same requests. I'm a Pakistani Muslim and my friend is a Caucasian Protestant...we're both pretty laid back, fun, always willin to have a good time, party, etc. We both will pay rent on time, and expect a roomie to do the same. We don't want someone whose some crazy study freak and will go off if we have someone over to simply watch tv...we dont' want someone that's a party animal and will have friends and a gallon of liquor over every night....partying in the apt. is welcome if we're not like goin crazy over work and if i'm welcome to party with you all :p..and as long as the place doesnt' get trashed....soemone respectful of eachothers' requests...doesn't matter if you're a guy or a girl, just as long as you're not some nasty slob or some obsessive compulsive neat freak...we wanna keep the place clean, but we dont' want someone that'll go nuts if there's a piece of paper on the floor.... Need to know ASAP!!!....message me for my cell number!

Whew!!! I only have one more final! YAY!!!! Found out I made an A in both my Poli-Sci classes. Luckily, they liked my papers and I made an A on both. :)

Nahrafsfa, good luck on finding a roommate. I would have taken you up on the offer had I not been asked to room with friends. We'll see how good of friends we are after rooming together for a while. You sound like the perfect roommate. I feel the same way you do (studying comes first, partying second). My friends are pretty studious, but they like to party too, so we'll see how it works out.

I'd like to hear how much studying you guys will do after the first month at UVA =)
