UVA travel question

How does a kid get from Charlottesville, VA to Dulles Airport other than hitch a ride with a buddy? Also on the D.C.Metro Line I noticed that there is a West Falls Church/VT-UVA stop. What is that? Does that have anything to do with the Univ. of Virginia/Charlottesville.

Typically you would find a regular airporter bus. I know that Wisconsin has several a day from the Union to O'hare. I am sure UVa would have a similar service.

Do a Google search for 'Dulles airport'; I got this link showing transportation options

Looks like they have buses to the Washington Metro system.

oldman, the "West falls church/VT-UVA" has nothing in particular to do with UVA-charlottesville. I believe it is in reference to continuing education and/or extension courses through UVA and VT offered somewhere near that destination.

OldMan:
Here's another link - Greyhound seems to provide service from Charlottesville to Dulles airport.

Cavalier is right. The West Falls Church/VT-UVA is reference to the VT-UVA grad center that is located within walking distance of that stop. If you're looking for a way for someone older, meaning able to rent a car, you may be just as well off at renting at Dulles and driving down, it's about a two hour drive, very pretty too.

Thanks for all the help!

My daughter is going there next year, I asked a friend who has a second year son how to get there from DC. She said that there is a bus, but it is about the same price to fly out of Charlottesville to DC then to Chicago.

There is a bus from Charlottesville to Dulles

Hitching a ride may be difficult for a first year. They can't have cars.

Richmond is shorter drive, but I don't think that there is a bus to the airport.

Good luck

Thanks, I found the greyhound schedule.

UVA also has "home ride" buses for students, that go from UVA to different places around the state. They leave UVA on Friday and come back Sunday.

Hitching a ride is very possible, with an upperclassman or some people's parents will come down and pick them up.

I've taken the Greyhound home many times from W&M... worked well except on the Sunday after thanksgiving. There's some weird people on those buses though...

The plane is also probably worth looking into, as that would land you right at Dulles.

soccerguy315,

Thanks...found it. Leaves UVA at 3 and arrives at Vienna Metro at 5.

Oldman, If you are looking at leaving from Dulles, I know there is a bus that connects into the metrorail system, but I think it does it at another stop (maybe East Falls Church), not the Vienna stop (which is the end of the line). I know several Virginia colleges run buses to Northern Virginia on the weekends and frequently terminate at Vienna, as it's a good location to meet or to ride else where. I'm just not too sure if that's a good connection for Dulles Airport however. Hope that makes sense.
