I go to a public high school in Maryland where I am in a STEM program. In college I would like to major in a business/economics/marketing type path.
My favorite schools so far have been UVA, Duke, and UNC. I love the social scenes and history of the schools and the athletics are also important to me. Please suggest some similar schools.

Legacy at Duke
Mixture of different races German, Irish, Filipino, and Indian (3 grandparents are immigrants to country)
Will probably apply ED for Duke.
Please chance me. If there is anything I can do to increase my chances at these schools other than get good recommendations and write good essays let me know.
This would probably fit better into the college search and selection thread if you’re looking for school recommendations - just a heads-up
I’d encourage you to look at Rice University, Washington University in St. Louis, and maybe take a look at Emory and Vanderbilt as well.
Thanks for the reply. While I am looking expand my list, I also would like to know where I stand relative to the schools I’m interested in. I was considering visiting Vanderbilt later this summer as I’ve heard some good things about it.
UVA and UNC are reaches due to your OOS status. You may get in, you may not.
Duke is a reach as well but in my opinion applying ED boosts your chances considerably and of course, your legacy status can help.
Vanderbilt is a reach, as are all of the schools mentioned so far. I think you can get into Emory- but it’s a reach as well.
What can your parents afford? In my opinion you should apply to all of these schools, but please make sure to have some affordable safety and target schools on your list as well. You are a strong student and if you craft your list wisely, you will have nice options to choose from.
My family can contribute a moderate amount. I have a good amount stowed away that my grandparents left me (70k). Also, will always have a sibling in college at the same time.
I don’t know what a moderate amount means. Having a sibling in college at the same time for all four years will help a lot. I think your first step is to sit down with your parents and fill out the net price calculator for every one of these schools. If they are in the range of affordability… Great!!
Have you thought about some safety and target schools? Here are a few targets:
U of Rochester
Lehigh
Lafayette
U of Miami
Tulane
As far as a safety school goes I have Maryland College Park. However, I’m really trying to get a little further away from home. All the schools I have listed should work out financially for my family and I. We have tried out the price calculators.
Excellent! You are a strong student and I think you should apply to these reach schools… but… we can’t chance you other than to say ED at Duke will boost your chances.
Make sure to have a few safety and match schools as well. Have you considered Wake Forest? It’s not a safety but you have a good chance of getting in.
UMD-CP is a great school. Would you be happy there in the event that your reach schools do not work out? My advice is to pick a few more safety/match schools so that you have choices, but it’s your decision.
UNC has a better social scene, history and athletics than dook. They ain’t the natty champs.
vanderbilt doesnt have an undergrad business program
