I like the essays, good to great teacher recs.

Thats about it.

Any thoughts? I know you want to help me out b/c I like you have become way too stressed about this (not that this will actually end my stress or anything). Thanks

Hey! I'm applying to WM too, and possibly Richmond if I don't get in there. I'd say that you've got a pretty good shot at Richmond (they're private so they don't care about out of state). As for WM, if you were in-state I'd say definitely, but since you're out of state the odds go down some. Still, I'd say with excellent essays and recs you've got a good chance, especially because they need more guys. I don't know a whole lot about UVA, but your GPA seems good for them, and you've got high SAT scores. I don't know much about any of the other schools on your list so I can't comment on those. Good luck with the search and let us know; you've got great stats, I'm sure you're going to get in to a school that you'll love!

The differences b/w UNC and UVa are location (piedmont vs. mountains), engineering (not something I personally am interested in), and for me personally at UNC I will know a ton of people from my high school and UVa would be pretty much no one from my school. And then UNC has an amazing basketball team (prob the most important difference b/w schools).

You have a good shot Richmond and a decent (greater than 50%) shot at Vandy. But Vandy selectivity is increasing rapidly, so it is not so predictable. You have a record to be proud of and that particular SATII is hard to do that well on. Essays will make a difference at all schools since you are for sure in the To Be Strongly Considered Pile. However, I think you odds OOS at UVa are slim as they have so many OOS applicants with stellar scores. I would advise you to be very pleased with Chapel Hill...a wonderful institution. You should visit Vandy and Wm and Mary if interested and show knowledge of the culture of each institution and project how you might contribute to the community. Wm and Mary was offering personal evaluative interviews with trained seniors last year that my S took advantage of and was glad he took the trouble. He also did overnights at Vandy and Wm and Mary and attended a full day of classes at each institution wihch involved email interactions with student hosts and profs. I recommend you find the time for such visits, partly because come April, you may have to choose between Chapel Hill and a couple of the other institutions who might admit you and that is going to be a tough call if you haven't spent actual time soaking up the cultures of the private and OOS places that have caught your eye.
