Hi All, My D wishes to persue her undergrad degree in business. She has been granted admission to Notre dame ( direct admit to Mendoza) and also reced an admission from the university of Virginia. Would like an opinion on which of the above she should consider. Cost not being a factor of consideration with an emphasis on quantity of education and undergrad repute of the collegeShe is an international student ,hence is concerned with the lack of diversity at notre dame but loves the school all the same. Moreover the university of Virginia does not offer a direct admit to their busiiness school which is a factor odd consideration. Any advice is welcome and appreciated ,thank you
IMO it is a big consideration to have that direct admit to Mendoza if your D knows she wants to study business. It looks like at UVA about two-thirds of the applicants to the b-school get in. https://www.commerce.virginia.edu/undergrad/application-process-uva
Thanks for your imput@ happy1
Mendoza is recognized as either the number one or number two undergraduate business program nationwide every year. I don’t know about UVA but if your D is interested in an undergrad business degree I’d vote for ND
Rankings are usually a very poor way to make a decision.
They also need to be taken with a boulder of salt. For example Penn/Wharton comes in at #16 in the 2016 Bloomberg rankings for undergrad B school. Which Wharton grad Donald Trump would tell you is ridiculous.
With the caveats out of the way, ND Mendoza and UVA McIntyre usually both rank in the top 5 and in many years have been ranked 1 and 2. There’s no meaningful difference in rankings. Both are fine schools.
Villanova is actually the current #1 fyi. ND/Mendoza is 2; BC/Carroll is 3; IU/Kelley is 4; UVA/McIntyre is 5.
If you care about the salaries earned by the graduates, Penn ranks #1; Cornell is #2; UVA is #3. ND is #13.
@northwesty After getting ratings that were so obviously flawed, Bloomberg has decided to no longer compile undergraduate b-school ratings.
