UVA vs Purdue

My son has been accepted to both UVA and Purdue and is having a hard time deciding where to go. He wants to major in Aerospace Engineering. He loves both campuses, but his dilemma is that altough UVA is a better ranked university, Purdue's engineering program is ranked higher than UVA.

Are there any UVA Engineering students that could give their opinion on the engineering program at UVA? Does anyone know what job placements are like for UVA engineering students after graduation?

Thanks for your help!

definately purdue if he is truly commited to that major...if he wants the whole package however...im just gonna have to be biased and say uva

Are you a student at UVA? Do you like it?

didn't uva get rid of it's aerospace engineering department?

No - I think it's part of the Mechanical Engineering department.

im not a student...i was accepted this year and will be attending in the fall..but my mom went to purdue undergrad...and their engineering program is probably the most prestigious program they have there...1 famous alumni of that program would be neil armstrong...you know...that whole moon thing...

I think cardsfan is right, if he is absolutely certain that he will major in aerospace then he should go to purdue. One of my friends is in aerospace here and he said that the program isn't that good, apparently they almost scrapped the whole program all together and then decided to keep it and move it under the mechanical program. That said, if your son thinks there is a chance that he might not end up majoring in engineering then he should consider coming here.
