I'm looking to major either in biomedical engineering or in neuroscience, but my main concern is getting into medical school and having research/internship opportunities. (I'm a VA-resident, so Rice would be costing me about $3,000 more than my state schools and I'm not sure about Emory's fin aid yet.)

Any input which might help me make my decision would be very helpful. . . Thank you!

Emory has the highest med school acceptance rate in the nation, hands down. Rice, however, also has an acceptance rate of about 92%, though sources have indicated anywhere from 85%-96%.

Rice has tons of research/internship opps -especially with med centers across the street. Rice has great acceptance rates to med school. I used to know the numbers, but I can't remember where I saw them. Why don't you contact Rice and see if you can get answer to the "what percentage of rice students applying to med school are admitted?"

brownthunder, Emory does not have the highest medical school placement rate. That honor goes to a few LACs. Haverford has nearly a 100% placement rate.

30,000 a year is a good amount of money. you may wanna save it by going to UVa, which will give me the same opportunities if you are willing to try hard.

Regarding finances, I'll be paying approximately the same amount for UVa (no aid) and Rice (fin aid) although Rice will be around $3,000 more each year, but I'm just wondering if I'll get much more for that $3,000. . .

brownthunder, I'm not doubting what you said, but can you please post a link to your source that Emory has the greatest medschool acceptance rate?

Rice has better social life than UVa, hands down. The college system is awesome at Rice, the campus is gorgeous, people are friendly, lots of parties, really easy to get along there.
