Which is harder to get into? Both as an incoming freshman and transfer?

UVa's definitely harder (but just slightly) than Stern for out of state, but they're relatively equal for instate.

UVA in state is probably easier than Stern since in state UVA is 40% and Stern is about 28%.

Yea I would be out of state for UVa. When I look on college board and princeton review it seems much easier to get into than Stern, but I suppose those stats are mostly for instate, right?

Any idea what admit stats (sat, gpa, ect) are for uva out of state?

This might help you...

no instate doesn't matter at all for Stern or any school in NYU b/c it's private.

Where are you seeing info that leads you to believe it is much easier to get into Stern than UVA OOS?

UVa Average GPA: 4.04
Stern average GPA: 3.77

Need I say more?

yes you need to say more...lol

Stern's acceptance rate is quite a bit lower than UVA. Stern also accepts far fewer students than UVA overall. But, given that the OP is OOS, I'd say UVA probably IS harder. But when it comes to regular admission to UVA compared to Stern, it still seems like Stern is harder.

3.77 is not stern's average gpa.. it's average gpa of nyu in general

just because UVA has a higher admit rate, doesnt mean that it is easier to get into. Chicago's acceptance rate is 40%, but it is undoubted that it is much harder to get into than UVA and stern. some schools just have a better pool of students applying.

NYU's average is 3.63 not 3.77 silly.

what grades (and if nessecary extra ecs and stuff) do you need to get at nyu first year to be able to transfer as a sophmore?

It's hard to compare UVa OOS and Stern. Both are competitive in terms of admissions, but Stern looks for different qualities in an applicant than UVa would.

futurenyustudent: Where are you getting those GPAs from?

my point is UVA is basically the #1 public school while Stern is like the #5 undergrad business school. I'm sure they get similarly qualified applicants that are admitted, and the fact that UVA admits around 40% and Stern 28% would make me think you need a little more to get into Stern.

i don't agree.
everybody i know that applied as a transfer to stern got accepted. even on cc, it seemed like everybody got admitted to nyu AND stern.

and you shouldn't really look into admit %'s too much. uva's percentage is higher since it's obviously a public school. if you look at OOS uva applicants and stern applicants, they're probably pretty much the same.

So what if UVA is admitting 40%?

Blackstone and Lazard recruit from UVA, so I really doub they're seeing something inferior in their students.

You're not going to be missing out on major recruiting opportunities coming from UVA, the only reason i'd attend is if i was desperate to be in NY during college b/c the old boys network from Virginia will always be around to provide strong ties when it comes to getting a job

UVA is NOT the #1 public school. according to ALL prominent rankings, Berkeley is higher than UVA.

simple answer: pretty much equal.

I'm instate and I got into UVa and Stern(attending). The thing is you have to get into UVa first before you can apply to McIntire(unless you're a transfer). I really did not want to go through the whole admission process again.

forgiven - I hope you are right :)
