I also was curious as to whether which biomedical engineering program is better, UVa's or VCU's? I know that 94% of biomed students at VCU go off into med school which is what I want to do as well, but is it better than going to UVA? The whole point is to take the road to med school that is the least hardest and most informative. Is that UVA or VCU? I like both colleges, but I want to make a wise choice in terms of my future.

I’d like to know too… since I may have the same dilemma that you have… except I got a scholarship to VCU, which makes the decision that much harder :(

I know several students that have gone in each direction, VCU and UVa. The irony is that there have been UVa students at VCU/MCV’s med program and VCU students at UVa for med school. It really comes down to what is the right fit for you. They are two very very different campuses. The professors at each are outstanding. You might want to look up the faculty at each and see what are they working on for research that fits in with your interest. I cannot stress enough that you need to visit each campus as a whole as well as each school’s biomed department. If you all could have gone to the program at UVa this past weekend it really would have given you a wonderful opportunity to hear discussions by the professors in that department. Visit the campuses, ask questions of students and faculty and weigh your options. Also, each is associated with a teaching hospital which is a very important factor to consider.

I’m in the same boat…but, since the UVA boat does not offer the $$ that VCU does, well, it doesn’t take a Bio-Medical Engineer to figure out where this Baconman will be attending. VCU was the first accredited university in VA and also offers Hospital interns the first semester…very different campus life…urban or rural?? If you got into the BME at VCU chances are you also were accepted in the Honor’s College. VCU Engineering offers $$ above the $$ offered through the universities scholarship department. Man I wish UVA would do the same…so, that being said, I’m sure someone on the Waitlist will be very happy when the Baconman chooses not to get in the frying pan…
