UVA vs. Virginia Tech

which is better for premed, cost and college life....

is VCU a good premed school too?....(Virginia Commonwealth University)

UVA by leaps and bounds

I think vcus nursing program is ranked 7th in the nation

I think vcus nursing/premed(cant remember which one) program is ranked 7th in the nation

UVa definitely.

You will receive a better education at VT. UVA is a breeze once your in. Football games and student life - much better at Tech. But if you are going to work and live outside VA/DC -- UVA has a better reputation.

UVa....total no brainer.

You must go to Tech, AZDANN.

yep.. UVA.

VT does costs about 8 grand less, but if you got into both, UVA is the no brainer.

Not something to be worried about with AccessUVA. ;)

UVA is much better than VT. No reason to go to VT if you get into UVA unless the costs are hugely different.

philly, All three of the schools you mentioned have strengths in different areas of study. I respectfully disagree with some of the other replies with regards to making a blanket statement that one school is "better" than the other if you take that into account.

They are all so different in so many ways regarding their campuses, etc., but since you are looking specifically at pre med, you do need to look into VCU. Here is a link about their guaranteed admission program into their Medical School. The Medical College of Virginia is one of the most respected on the East Coast if not the country. The cost of VCU if you are able to go this route would be amazing. The downside with VCU is it is in Richmond, which unfortunately pales in aesthetic comparison to either Blacksburg or Charlottesville. Some people love the urban landscape though!

UVA, as you probably know also has a med school, so they may have a similiar program. Good luck to you and I hope this helps!
