So I've heard and seen many discussions on the engineering programs of both schools, but I want to know the other differences of the two schools. I believe they are both great schools. Obviously, people think that UVA is the "better" or "smarter" and I have fallen in love with UVA ever since my sister went there, but I am always open for other schools as well (most interested in VTech than other schools) so does anyone mind discussing each schools' student bodies, campuses, etc.? Please and thank you!

We can tell you so, so much about UVa, but it isn’t really our place to tell you about other colleges.

Have you visited the other schools on your list? Maybe you should ask questions you have about them in the forum specific to those schools.

I’ve commented, quite a bit, on the two different schools, as have others on here. I suggest searching a bit and I think you could find exactly what you’re looking for :)

Apply to both. And W&M too, while you’re at it.

Whatever schools offer you admission, spend a day at each shadowing a student in your intended department/major. Go to their classes (and ask each professor if it’s okay for you to sit in and observe, before s/he starts). Visit dining halls or take them to lunch. Spend some time in the library, some time in the student union, some time just hanging out on the grass. Spend the day finding out from an actual student at each school what it is like.

If you still don’t know where to matriculate, come back here after that and tell us what you liked and disliked about each.

I have a senior ME major at VT who has quite a few friends in Engineering at UVA. Based on his conversations and observations, he wishes he had chosen UVA from the Engineering program standpoint. (still likes VT atmosphere better). Not sure that helps, but there are VT people who appreciate UVA’s Engineering program. You can’t go wrong with either. Best of luck.

Honestly, you should visit both school if at all possible in addition to gather information from others

There are so many positives for both UVA and VT Engineering. If you really love UVA then that’s probably a no-lose choice if you are accepted. But please visit VT to see the campus and speak with students and professors. You may find that you don’t like it at all. Or, you may decide that while UVA was great for your sister you feel most at home at VT. Good luck with your decision.

W&M does not have an engineering program directly associated with the school.

This is a decision you will have to make on your own. UVa and VT have very good engineering schools, and you will certainly have multiple opportunities to be successful with an engineering degree from either institution.
