UVA vs. W&M for Non-Premed Bio Major

Hi everyone. As an upcoming college freshman torn between UVA and William and Mary, I’d love to know what you think of the differences between the biology majors for someone who is not interested in the premed program. I’m particularly looking to head into the path of zoology and environmental science.

I’ve already read many of the “UVA vs W&M” threads, but those discussions mostly focus on the student populations as a whole and tend to only talk about differences in the business/engineering/pre-med programs. I could make a much more informed decision if I could get some more “inside perspective” about both the academics and the students/student atmosphere found within non-premed tracks at these schools.

Thanks!

Bio is very competitive here because of pre-med. I had one non pre med bio major friend who was constantly dismayed at the impossibility of getting an A. She just resigned herself to Bs. There is a separate environmental science major here that doesn’t have those kinds of problems. You can make your own major here, too. I think W&M would be competitive, too, but I don’t have first hand knowledge.
