<p>I recently found out that I have to go to a college in my state (if you haven't figured it out yet, I am a Virginian) because they have already paid for 2 years of college at any VA school.</p>
<p>Right now UVA is my top choice but I want to open my mind to other schools.</p>
<p>What are your opinions about:</p>
<p>-campus
-student body
-academics
-anything else comparing the 3 colleges</p>

GPA: 4.1 Unweighted
PSAT: 190
I go to a special magnet high school (we are rivals of Thomas Jefferson HS)
I want to go to Law School after undergrad for either business or estate law</p>
<p>It really comes down to location, and how important sports are. UVA and VA Tech both have a LOT of school spirit. W&M much less so. Tech is in the complete middle of nowhere. UVA has the largest Jewish presence of the three, I believe.</p>
<p>James Madison and Richmond are also good schools in VA.</p>
<p>I love school spirit and it is a big plus for me. Also I would like there to be good surroundings around so Tech may not be great for me. The Jewish presence is important too. I never even heard that about UVA before!</p>
<p>This just makes me love UVA even more :)</p>

<p>That is true FP9, but I just couldn't really see myself going to either of those schools. Maybe my mind will change between now and when I apply.</p>
<p>Well I didn't say a great Jewish presence, just, there is one. My brother visited UVA, but didnt bother applying because the Jewish presence was smaller than he wanted.</p>
<p>Oh. Well for me I want a Jewish presence but a very big one is not too important for me. I am not extremely religious so just some presence is nice.</p>

<p>Yes, it is. I live in Northern VA and our grading scale is different then most of the country.</p>
<p>A+ = 98-100 4.3
A = 93-97 4.0
B+ = 90-92 3.3
B = 85-89 3.0</p>
<p>....and so on</p>
<p>W&M is more open minded (no" Macaca" mentality here) and has the best law school admit ratio in the state. If you want a smaller more intellectual setting, W&M is the best this side of Duke in the South. Downside is that its the toughest to gain admittance and highest test scores as well. You should look into W&M as well. good luck.</p>

<p>Most of those pre-paid college plans have a no-penalty out if you want to withdraw the funds to attend a school out of state. Perhaps you would be at a substantial loss however, if you pulled it out with the economy where it presently is. Not that you really should, of course. I grew up in Fairfax County and went to college out of state (Wake Forest), because to me at the time, U.Va. and W&M were just the "state colleges." Then, when I got older and began traveling around the country, I was amazed to find that the rest of the country falls to its knees and begins the "I am not worthy" bow at the mention of U.Va. and W&M. I've had more than one person ask "if you liked colleges like Wake, why didn't you stay in state and go to W&M?"</p>
<p>That is very interesting gadad. Yes I know I can pull out of the pre-paid plan but it would be a loss with this economy plus even before I found out I have to go to a school in state I loved UVA (and W&M is very nice too) :)</p>

<p>Looking towards law school and based solely on what I perceive as each school's national reputation, I'd put:</p>
<p>UVa a little ahead of W&M and W&M a good bit (but not a great bit) ahead of Va Tech.</p>
<p>Any of the three schools would be good, however.</p>
