UVA, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt... IB Student Chances?

As with most of the class of 2015, I have officially hit the "oh no I will never get into my dream school" wall and it does not feel so hot. I am trying to limit myself to 8 college applications, I have never used this website before but if you chance me I will chance you back! (That is how that works right?)

My SAT scores are not the best, but I have pretty strong extra curricular activities and leadership experience. UVA is my first choice right now I believe. Thoughts anyone? Anything is appreciated!

Edit: I intend on going into business, but that could easily change.

Are you retaking your SAT? Your score is low for Wake, Vandy and Emory. Do you live in VA. If not UVA is likely not an option either.

Have you tried the ACT?

Wake doesn’t require scores, so I may or may not send them. I might retake it I’m not positive, but I tried the ACT and it didn’t go very well for me. Fortunately, I have some connections with alumni at Vanderbilt that could helped pull my weight (my brother never broke 2000 and still got in). I live in Maryland, but I’m hoping my vested interest in UVA will show for something.

Sorry, before I chance you, as a fellow IB student, I got to ask… DO YOU GET CAS HOURS FOR THE CAS CLUB? Haha

lol, but seriously, what is it?

@S2Stan yes!! It is actually a really stupid thing that all of the IB students in our school have to go to, its only once a month and we literally do nothing but according to out IB coordinator lady it counts for hours.

I should also add that I have an internship with a non-profit cancer research center in the fall, I will be working to help plan fundraising events/5Ks etc. I also started my own business with a friend of mine (clothing related), that we expect to do really well in the coming year. I also tutor lower level French students!

You have some pretty solid ECs which will definitely help your chances. I believe your test scores fall in the middle 50% for UVA, and with your ECs, I see you as a competitive applicant. Keep in mind, however, that most who apply are very qualified. I know that UVA is big on legacy, but I’m not sure about interest, although it most certainly won’t hurt!
