UVA:What are my chances????

my chances??

I was wondering what you guys thought about my chances:

I'm IN-STATE, Fairfax County (we have a tough grading scale too)
GPA: 3.98
APs: 9 total, tough courseload (AP: Chem, bio, world his., govt., Latin Catullus/Ovid, Vergil, Calc BC, English 11 & 12)
SATs: 740 writing, 680 math, 640 verbal (I know its not that good ) Bio-660, Math II-620 (I know –not that great)

ECs: President/SG of Model UN (4 years)
Folger Shakespeare Fellowship- 1 out of 15 chosen in DC metropolitan area, analyzed shakespeare’s plays, staging, met w. distinguished professors, learned a lot abt. public speaking, held at one and only Folger Shakespeare Library

Scientific research internship: work w. doctor at the Children’s Med. Center doing research, I’m co-researcher and co-author (of any published work), have been doing it for 3 years

Head Volunteer at Center for Multicultural and Humanitarian Services; I teach multicultural children/help with homework while their parents take free ESL classes

Senior pianist in group/class, playing since 2nd grade
Cellist: 1st chair intermediate orch., 3rd chair advanced/chamber orch.
(I have more ECs but UVA said to write what is most important to me)

Awards: Model UN: 10+ Outstanding Delegation awards (2nd place), 3 1st place awards, 4 Honorables (3rd place), 2 Verbals (4th)
Always on Honor Roll; Science Honor Society, National Honor Society, Latin Honor Society (the 1 yr. it existed in school); Folger Shakespeare Fellow

Essay: My English teacher’s loved them if that’s worth anything, wrote one about my mother’s disgusting squash soup (quite descriptive too), a story about traveling to India-I contrasted the perfection of the Taj Mahal with the not-so-appealing signs of pollution and public negligence around it, and the last one about stem cell research

Sorry that was long, but I’m really nervous (esp. after getting waitlisted by W&M): What do u guy’s think of my chances of getting into UVA?

phenomenal

You got waitlisted at W&M!!! I agree with smaesies00>>you are phenomenal!! Good luck. Where else are you looking?

EDIT: I do not know what your chances are!!!!!! Find out friday!

Are you a man or a woman? W&M is weird that way. You have more of a chance there if you are a man. D's girlfriend was rejected from W&M with incredible stats and she was accepted at UVA and a bunch of other places.

IMHO, 99% chance of acceptance. You would be rather competitive OSS but you are even better considering you are IS. I think W&M probably thought you would get into a better school so they decided to waitlist you to see if you wanted to really go there. I wouldn't take their waitlisting as a sign or anything. Good Luck!

ok, you guys are amazing, W&M made me feel horrible for being waitlisted (and whats worse is that I've been trying to blame myself this entire week for it (i.e. maybe my SATs or they got some idea that I wasn't interested in the school etc....even though I thought my SATs were decent and my ECs are really cool, and I spent so much time on WM and UPenn)
For the person who asked, yes- I am a girl:) I didn't know it was possible for a school to make decisions over gender...weird.
I also applied to UPenn, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown,
I was accepted to Mary Washington and George Mason (both backups) to their honors colleges
But I really want to get into UVA and most likely would attend if they accepted me! (I REALLY hope you guys are right!!!)

A lot of people in my school apply to UVA and as of senior year a lot of my friends (and some others) have the same tough course load, but last year I was one of like 15-20 students in my junior class to have 4 APs (with 1 honors class, and orchestra) and this year I skipped 7th pd twice a week to attend the fellowship (so that was a bit tougher)
Because so many applied does this lessen my chances (becuase I know some school have something like a quota to take a certain percentage of students from a school)?
I'm sorry, I know chancing people can be annoying to some, but it definitely does a lot to boost one's confidence after facing the waitlist or rejection :)

I'm also from fairfax and i have similar stats and got waitlisted from william and mary... i felt pretty crappy too but then at school this week i found out that almost everyone i know was also waitlisted. one of my friends even got into unc chapel hill out of state and then was waitlisted from w&m. i think they took a lot of their 2012 class from ed and there was just simply less room for the rd kids... so i reallyyy wouldnt worry about it affecting tomorrow.. i think you have a great chance to get into uva!

I got waitlisted,I still can't believe it, I don't know what to do now. I don't want to go to Mary Washington...
:(

nikki9, I pm'd you.
Please don't tell me that Mary Washington is your only backup??
I'm shocked that you are waitlisted at both these schools. You are IS and have great credentials.

did you teachers hate you and write god-awful recs? i fail to understanf how you were wl'ed at BOTH of these schools. I wouldnt usually advise making appeals, but in your case i definitely think its worth it. You have my sympathy. Good luck with whatever happens and wherever you decide to go. You seem pretty smart and im sure you'll be able to make to most out of wherever you go

I ,too, am very sorry that you weren't accepted. But if you look at the accepatances thread, the SAT scores are very high this year for accepted students. Perhaps, that is the reason. Good luck with your decision.
