UVA??? What do you think?

University of Virginia is my top school! I visited and fell in love with the campus!! Obviously my stats are below-par :expressionless: , so I was wondering how you think I will do… I applied early action to the College of Arts & Sciences, selecting mathematics and philosophy as my first and second choice majors and with a pre-law track.

SAT: 2000 (1340 M/CR) … probably could’ve taken again and did a lot better
GPA: my school doesn’t use a 4.0 scale, but I’d guess a 4.0 unweighted (94/100 unweighted)
RANK: top 10%

SENIOR COURSE LOAD: AP Calc BC, AP Stats, AP Lit, Spanish V, Theatre, Psychology

AWARDS: Nothing major, I live in a pretty rural area with not much exposure. National Honor Society, Honor Graduate, and a couple of teacher awards for achievement

EXTRACURRICULARS:
4 years of student government
Sophomore/Junior Class Treasurer
Senior Class Vice President
3 years of school musical
2 years of competitive gymnastics (with a few state awards, been doing since childhood, stopped soph. year due to injury)
volunteer gymnastics coach 300+ hours
300+ hours of community service
100+ hours of marine biology research (which I hope makes up for my lack of science course senior year)
some other major fundraising efforts

RECOMMENDATIONS: honestly really great! i had amazing relationships with both teachers
counselor rec was probably a bit generic

ESSAYS: i’d consider them pretty good, had them edited by two different teachers and didn’t have any major comments over the content. my common app talks about the small town i grew up in and my connection to the sea and how it’s shaped me. my two supplementals were about my love for math and how it’s made me the person i am and etc (college of art&science essay) & my “favorite word” essay talks about gymnastics and not giving up on your goals.

I’m OOS (new england)

Feel free to ask any clarifying questions, I just kinda want to know how prepared I should be for a deferral (or an initial rejection, but hopefully not!!!)

So again, obviously I probably won’t stand out a whole lot stat wise… But I’m hoping that my relatively varied extracurriculars (leadership, music, sports service, research) and my essays help me a little.
Thanks for the help!!!

(i’ll also add that i’ve worked as a waitress for over a year, about 25hrs a week during the summer and 10 during the school year)

anyone??? i’m a female, ~$100,000 income bracket. i applied early action, but would it be beneficial to sign up to take the regular sat again in january in case i get deferred? i just want to do anything i can to get in :))))))

I think SAT 2000 meets the threshold “academically qualified” and you would need to compare the possible improvement from re-taking the exam with the possible effect on your grades.

But, the University states on their webpage, “The last recommended test dates for Regular Decision applicants are the December dates.” The deadline is supposed to be January 1, so scheduled re-taking in January is almost certainly too late.

You basically have to trust the strength of your application as you’ve already submitted it to carry the day. And make sure you have some applications to other schools submitted by Jan. 1, because OOS admissions to UVA are really, really competitive.

thanks for the insight!

@FCCDAD 's advice is great. IMO your only handicap is being OOS. Good luck!

thanks for commenting! i’m turning into a bit of a worry wart

bump  I’d really like some extra insight on my stats
